She has been called many things: mother, muse, mystery. But Nadine Lustre doesn’t just sit pretty and coast on her charisma. She knows when to speak, how to strike, and what not to tolerate. And if you’ve been paying attention, you’ll know she’s never one to let things slide. Here are just a few times she made that clear.

Content note: This article contains mention of rape.
1. Filing a Case Under the Safe Spaces Act
Lustre didn’t hesitate to use the law when her boundaries were crossed. Earlier today, she filed a case under the Safe Spaces Act, a Philippine law that defines and penalizes gender-based sexual harassment. No official statement on the exact trigger, but it bears recalling a very recent comment on her Instagram account: “Sana na ma-rape ka ng adik.” (I hope you get raped by an addict.)
Some corners of the internet are still stuck in the worst kind of darkness, but Lustre’s move was a quiet yet pointed refusal to normalize disrespect towards women.
2. ‘I’d like to keep my skin color’
Does having more eumelanin make you any less? One comment, one assumption, and one tired standard met her Instagram, and she replied: “I’d like to keep my skin color. Thank you very much.” Her tone was calm, but the point was clear: she’s proud of the skin she’s in and is in no need of a whitening drip to prove anything.
3. ‘It’s 2017’

In the face of pearl-clutching reactions to relationship cohabitations, Nadine didn’t care to tiptoe. When asked about her living situation with her then-partner James Reid, she simply said, “So what? … Come on, guys, it’s 2017.” It echoed across news clips and memes alike but ultimately landed as a boundary more than a punchline.
4. ‘At least ‘di kasing dumi ng ugali mo’
Shutting down skin color shaming was just the prelude. Next up: the body-shamers. Called out for looking “dirty and dry” and “looking old,” she served a relatively ruthless answer: “At least, di kasing dumi ng ugali mo.” (At least, it’s not as dirty as your attitude). The real grime, it seems, lives in bad attitude, and Lustre just loves to keep things clean.
5. ‘You’re just another hater’
When a small part of the internet dragged her partner Christophe Bariou over cheating rumors, the artist came through: “Stop acting like you’re concerned. You’re just another hater tryna create drama. 2023 na, gawa na lang tayong vegan cheese.” (It’s 2023—let’s just make vegan cheese).
She called out another comment that fueled the cheating rumors, zeroing in on the toxic double standards that make us think, why can’t friendships just be friendships?
She’s no silent starlet. She’s not called President or Mother Nadine for no reason. She’s a force that speaks louder than the gossip, the hate, the disrespect—standing firm when it matters most.
