The Filipino Designer’s Perspective
The “World of Interior Design” showcase at WORLDBEX gathers leading Filipino practitioners who approach sustainability as a creative possibility.
Among them are Tacloban-based designer Leo Lino M. Almeria, known for elevating Filipino design standards through thoughtful material use; Suzette F. Cocuaco, a member of the College of Fellows of the Philippine Institute of Interior Designers; and Chat Fores, whose studio has long explored purposeful, carefully composed interiors. They are joined by Chitz Legaspi, Eric Paras, and the Hubilla Design Group, each presenting spaces that balance style with environmental responsibility.
Fores described WORLDBEX as “the vital link between the interior designer’s vision and its execution.” Design begins as imagination, but sustainability demands follow-through.
A Map of Filipino Craft
Beyond individual showcases, the event gathers perspectives from across the archipelago. Designers, including Cecil Ravelas, the newly elected national president of PIID, alongside Mikee Yusay, Sheryl Marinas, Shiela Gumba, Bryan Bulan, and Mindanao-based artist-designer Sugar Verga, present regional interpretations of sustainable interiors.
Their work highlights a design truth that the Philippines understands instinctively: local materials already hold immense environmental intelligence. Indigenous fibers, regional woods, and handcrafted furniture carry cultural memory along with structural strength.
WORLDBEX also places a spotlight on Pampanga’s furniture industry through Deco Central, a hub featuring leading Filipino design houses. Among the names showcased are JB Woodcraft, South Sea, Fashion Interiors, Heinimex PH, and Vulcan Resources.
These pieces find their place within curated interior installations, brought to life with contributions from companies such as Montes Designs, Maze Mfg., Calfurn, A. Garcia Crafts, Country Accents, and Fleur D’ Elise.
The most persuasive insight emerging from WORLDBEX is simple. Sustainability has graduated from trend status. It now defines the standard. Like fashion, luxury no longer just asks how lavish can this be, but how wisely can this be made. A well-designed interior today carries a double ambition: visual pleasure and environmental intelligence.
