Among all the new Filipino shows premiering in 2026, Someone, Someday holds a special place for multiple reasons. First, it’s Kathryn Bernardo’s series comeback after four years and a comeback series for many of the show’s stars. It also marks the first time Bernardo and James Reid will work together on a project, a team-up that was once deemed unimaginable for those of you who were there during the 2010s.

The People That Make Someone, Someday
At the heart of Someone, Someday are the characters that bring to life the show’s story. For Dimples Romana, she plays the mother figure of the series Tita Precious. “Without giving away too much, she’s the type of person that you have in your life that you feel more like your family to her, even if you’re not blood-related,” she shares. The role is particularly exciting for the actress as it marks her reunion with Bernardo on a teleserye since 2010’s Mara Clara.
Coincidentally, Romana and Bernardo’s characters had a mother-daughter relationship on the show, and that dynamic continues in Someone, Someday with Tita Precious serving as Billy’s mother figure, even though she isn’t her biological mother. “We always have that one person. This person is always there for me; she loves me, she cares for me, even if I’m not related to her.”
Serving as the show’s moral compass of sorts is Jordan, played by James Reid in his first teleserye since 2016. As Billy’s best friend since childhood, Jordan is her ride-or-die as that loyal friend you can count on to be there for you. “For me, Jordan is the kind of person who always tries to do the right thing. He has a very strong moral compass. It’s very honorable, actually. Jordan is a very honorable character,” he says.
But what stood out to Reid the most about Jordan is the character’s love of music. In fact, the songs Jordan sings on the show were all written by Reid, in total producing 4-5 tracks for the series. “What I like about him the most is his passion for music, how he expresses himself through writing songs. I’m super honored that my music made it into the show. I’ve been focusing on music for the last five, six years, so being able to integrate that into a project of this scale, I’m super honored.”
Arguably one of the show’s most intriguing characters is Maja Salvador’s Abi. Six years after her last full-length teleserye in The Killer Bride and first acting role since giving birth to her daughter, Salvador is back on the screen, and she plays a complex woman with secrets to hide. “Abi is finding her place in Billy’s world. So watch out if she’ll be accepted by Billy or not,” she teases.
Salvador is no stranger to portraying iconic characters who aren’t easily defined, and Abi looks to join that roster. “That’s what Filipino creatives are good at,” the actress says on her teleserye roles becoming beloved characters over the years. “They know how to balance. Because in our lives, we’re really going through something.” Salvador is careful not to share too much about her role as she carries some of the show’s biggest reveals, but needless to say, she’s ready for viewers to meet her. “I was really challenged to do my role because her journey is a lot. So I’m excited for people to watch and to uncover Abi’s journey.”
Finally, for Kathryn Bernardo, Someone, Someday marks her return to TV and also a new chapter in her career. If it isn’t her first time working with an actor or director, it’s been years since she last did so. Understandably, that adjustment period wasn’t easy. “Usually, it takes a couple of taping days to warm up and to feel homey on set. But for this one, it took a while. There were a lot of changes. So it took me a while to warm up and also to get to know my character.”
Speaking of her character, Bernardo plays Billy, the show’s main lead and the driving force of its story. In the show, we meet Billy following a devastating heartbreak, which pushes her to found Lovelist, a dating app. “As a boss, she knows what she wants,” says Bernardo. “She’s very independent. She is a go-getter. She’s the type of girl who has a plan in life.” However, there’s a lot more to Billy than just being a girl boss. She’s a complex woman with a lot of sides to her that she shows depending on the people and situation, a fact Bernardo says women can relate to.
“I think that’s how it is, especially for women. We wear a lot of masks. Billy only has a small family. So when she’s at home, you’ll see that she’s the complete opposite of the girl boss. When she’s with Jordan, her safe space, her best friend, it’s a different mask that Billy wears. So there are a lot of layers to her character. She’s different from other people.”
There’s a lot of thought that went into making Billy more than the typical female teleserye lead, which makes her both an opportunity and a challenge for Benardo as a role. “She’s human. And she’s not, I think, the typical lead character that we see. And I feel like these are the most layers that I portrayed in a TV series; that’s why I enjoy creating Billy. That’s the challenge. And it’s very fulfilling once you’ve done something. But it takes a lot of courage, a lot of effort, and so much work.”
Working with a star-studded cast that Bernardo has mostly yet to work with, there were dynamics that needed to be navigated to find that groove. But even as the cast had to grease their acting wheels, so to speak, what connected them was their desire in wanting the show to work. As Bernardo puts it, “One thing in common among all of us: we’re all hungry, we want this to work, and it’s the project that we’re all fully committed to.
What Someone, Someday Wants You to Know About Life
Ultimately, Someone, Someday isn’t just here to fill a time slot on TV or a place on your watchlist. Since it was announced last year, the series has been hyped as one of the biggest coming in 2026. And as exciting as it is to see all these A-list stars back on our screens once more, what’s more thrilling for the cast and crew is to share a story and project that goes beyond the conventional.
As they tease, the series isn’t afraid to depict both the good and bad sides of its characters. But even as these complex, imperfect, and morally gray figures go through the ups and downs of life, their families will always be there for them, regardless of who forms it.
“The importance of family, how crucial family is to us, and how crucial it develops people,” says one of the show’s two directors, Dolly Dulu, on what she hopes viewers take away from the series. “In all the characters that you’ll see in our show, they all have different families, different ways of raising their characters. That’s why their characters are like that. So I hope that they’ll see that when they see the show, things that they should do, should not do, or should be aware of, that the things they do affect their children.”
While families play a key part in Filipino culture, Someone, Someday wants to make the case that a family doesn’t need to be blood-related for them to be a safe space for people to run to on their lowest days. “For me, it’s okay to show that you’re not your best foot forward,” shares the series’ other director Chad Vidanes. “But you are not alone. People around you, your family, will always be there no matter what.”
