Believe it or not, we are now a quarter of the way through 2026. But as we enter the fourth month of the year, the excitement doesn’t stop, at least when it comes to the new movies and shows that you can watch in April. From the stiletto-filled halls of the Runway offices to the many planets of the Super Mario galaxy, this month’s options features some of the biggest films of the year, anticipated new series, and fresh titles ready to transport you to all kinds of worlds. Cinema Releases

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie

Kicking things off this April is The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. This highly anticipated sequel sees Mario and the gang take their adventures to space after Princess Rosalina gets kidnapped by Browser Jr. to power his world-destroying space laser. Filled with references, easter eggs, and non-stop action, the movie is a ride from start to finish. The movie is currently showing in cinemas nationwide.

Robert Pattinson and Zendaya play Charlie and Emma, two people who are set to get married. However, things take a turn when a dark secret is revealed, sparking tension and prompting uncomfortable conversations about their future. 5 Centimeters Per Second

The live-action adaptation of the Makoto Shinkai animated hit is coming to the Philippines. The coming-of-age romantic drama tells the story of protagonist Takaki Tōno and his past relationships as he navigates love and life. Watch this exclusively in SM Cinemas starting April 8.

How to Make a Killing

Glen Powell stars in this black comedy as Becket Redfellow, a blue-collar man who was disowned at birth by his wealthy family. Seeking revenge and to claim his inheritance, Becket plots the downfall of his family. Catch this in SM Cinemas on April 10.

Huwag Kang Titingin

Gen Z horror takes center stage in this spooky flick from GMA Pictures. Featuring a cast filled with young actors led by Sofia Pablo, Allen Ansay, Marco Masa, Kira Balinger, Michael Sager, Shuvee Etrata, and Anthony Constantino, the movie tells the story of a group of young people who must survive a curse that’s taking them out one by one. It will come to local cinemas on April 15.

Lee Cronin’s The Mummy

No, this is not a The Mummy sequel, but a bold reimagining from Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin. In this twisted iteration, the young daughter of a journalist disappears into the desert without a trace. Eight years later, the broken family is shocked when they learn that she is alive and has been returned to them. But what should be a joyful reunion turns into a living nightmare as something is clearly wrong with their daughter. See how it all goes down in cinemas on April 15.

Michael

Continuing the trend of music legends getting their own biopic, this film is the cinematic portrayal of the life and legacy of one of the most influential artists in history, Michael Jackson. The film tells the story of his life beyond the music, tracing his journey from the discovery of his talent as the lead of the Jackson Five, to the visionary artist whose creative ambition fueled a relentless pursuit to become the biggest entertainer in the world. Watch Michael’s story on the big screen beginning April 22.

Mother Mary

Anne Hathaway is going to have an eventful April, and up first for the star is her dark turn in this movie, where popstar aesthetics meets psychological thriller. In it, Hathaway plays Mary, a fictional pop star, who needs a dress for her upcoming tour. This leads her to fashion designer Sam, as the two enter into a disturbing psychosexual affair. See how it all goes down exclusively in SM Cinemas on April 22.

The Devil Wears Prada 2

Ending April on a bang, we have one of the most anticipated movies of 2026. After two decades, Andy Sachs returns to Runway as Miranda Priestly deals with a scandal and a new media landscape that threatens Runway’s position in fashion. Together, they must reconnect and work with Emily, who is now the head of a luxury brand, to secure advertising money that could help keep Runway afloat. With everything we’ve seen and heard of the movie so far, it’s poised to be a cinematic moment. Be the first in line to experience it when it screens in local cinemas on April 29.

Fan-favorite Star Wars villain Darth Maul is finally getting his own solo series. Set a year after the Clone Wars, the show follows the former Sith lord as he rebuilds his criminal syndicate and goes on the search for a new apprentice, all while under the shadow of the Galactic Empire. The show is currently streaming on Disney+.

The Testaments

Following the success of One Battle After Another, breakout actress Chase Infiniti is taking on another major project as the lead star of The Testaments, the sequel series to The Handmaid’s Tale. The show centers on a new generation of young women in Gilead. For them, growing up in Gilead is all they have ever known, having no tangible memories of the outside world before their indoctrination into this life.

Facing the prospect of being married off and living a life of servitude, they will be forced to search for allies to help in their fight for freedom and the life they deserve. It is in this scenario that we find Agnes MacKenzie, a young woman who begins to realize that the life she thought she was preparing for is not what she wants. The series will premiere on April 8 on Disney+.

18th Rose

Set on the island of Romblon during the 2000s, the movie follows Rose, a teenager turning 18 and wanting nothing more than a debut of her dreams, and Jordan, an outsider desperate to get out of Romblon. The two enter a deal that if Jordan helps Rose with her debut, Rose will help Jordan get in contact with his father. Over time, they develop a friendship that turns romantic. Explore the beauty of young love and turning 18 in this original Filipino movie streaming on Netflix on April 9.

Perfect Crown

Starring Korean superstars IU and Byeon Woo-seok, this highly anticipated K-drama is a rom-com set in modern Korea under a constitutional monarchy. Sung Hui-ju is a CEO and a successful businesswoman who has everything except for social status. Prince I-an is the second son of the king, but is in a rut because he can’t possess anything since he has no wife. This leads the two to enter a contract marriage to achieve their goals. The show will premiere on Disney+ on April 10.  

Margo’s Got Money Troubles

This series centers on Margo Millet (Elle Fanning), a young mother who runs into money troubles. Desperate to make ends meet, Margo turns to OnlyFans, which leads to unexpected success and a reconnection with her former pro wrestler father. The show will come to Apple TV on April 15.

Absolute Value of Romance

This romance K-drama set in high school follows Yeo Eui-ju, a quiet student with a double life. By day, she’s an unassuming high schooler; by night, she secretly writes web novels and dreams of literary fame. Success feels far away for her, but inspiration strikes in the form of four charming new teachers, whose arrival sends both her school and her stories into overdrive. Playing on coming-of-age drama and those special teenage moments, Absolute Value of Romance will stream on Prime Video on April 17.

Stranger Things: Tales From ‘85

If you’ve been missing Stranger Things since the show’s finale, this animated spin-off may fill that hole in your heart. Taking place between the second and third seasons, the show follows Eleven, Mike, Will, Lucas, Dustin, and Max as they confront new monsters and a new mystery threatening Hawkins during the winter of 1985. The series puts the Stranger Things tone through a Saturday morning cartoon aesthetic for a new adventure that will stream on Netflix on April 23.  

Apex

Charlize Theron is in a fight for her life in this thriller starring her and Taron Egerton. It centers on a rock climber who is hunted by a deranged hunter and must use her skills to survive in the wild. The movie will stream on Netflix on April 24.  

Gold Land

Heeju is a young woman from a quiet town whose life takes a positive turn after she begins dating a successful pilot. Now working as an airport employee, Heeju feels like things are finally going her way. That is until her boyfriend calls her pleading for help. Within days, Heeju will find herself on the run after being tricked into unwittingly helping a smuggling operation and come into possession of a ton of gold bars as she evades the wrath of dangerous criminals. The series will stream on Disney+ on April 29.
