Ashtine Olviga Drops Her Debut EP
Love Like Ashtine contains six tracks, two of which were previously released as singles, Love Like U and Nasaan Ka Na? The EP opens with Hinga, a dance-pop tune that channels Olviga’s P-pop idol past with its sound and style. Its lyrics preach self-love, as the fast-paced song sees Olviga sing about learning to breathe and taking it easy when things get overwhelming.
The second track, This Way, is a fun number with a distinct beat and bass and an unexpected saxophone solo during the pre-chorus about wishing things stay the same with that special someone. Enno serves as a clear reminder to men that no means no as Olviga lets it be known that she has no time for a partner who does not respect her boundaries. Adding to the song’s boss energy is a surprise rap verse from Olviga as she lays down some bars about taking the hint.
It’s at this point in the album where the body of work’s pop-heavy first half moves into a more sentimental and band-driven second half, starting with Nasaan Ka Na? It’s Olviga’s first self-written song that sees her nurse a broken heart while imparting to listeners a message of hope that things can get better after heartbreak and betrayal.
Dito Lang Tayo, arguably the EP’s best track, is a great showcase of Olviga’s vocals as this smooth and easy-going song has her singing about enjoying the moment and savoring those memories with that special someone. The EP then ends on a sweet note with Love Like U as the album closes with Olviga finding the love she’s been looking for.
The six-track debut EP marks Olviga’s biggest musical project to date, and also comes as she gears up for a major music showcase with her solo concert, also titled Love Like Ashtine, at the New Frontier Theater on August 22.
Not only will she be taking the spotlight on her biggest stage yet performing her new songs, but Olviga will also be joined by special guests from her VIVA family, including Krissha Viaje, Nicole Omillo, Aubrey Caraan, GAT, RAYA, Jastine Lim, Sara Joe, Bianca Santos, Yumi Garcia, and Fatima Anonuevo, and potentially other surprises to keep audiences waiting in anticipation.
