She may be the daughter of a filmmaker and a British actress, but her success isn’t built on nepotism. Alia Bhatt has carved her own path in Indian cinema, earning acclaim for roles that spark conversation and shed light on women’s struggles.

Her courage to take on complex roles—and her moving performances—has earned her numerous accolades. But Bhatt’s impact extends far beyond the screen. She’s a philanthropist with a soft spot for animals, sustainability, and marginalized communities. And more recently, she’s entered the world of business with her own sustainable fashion brand.

She’s more than influential—she’s a force using her platform for good.

Fearless on Screen

Born into a family of filmmakers and performers, Bhatt’s life in the spotlight seemed predestined. At only five years old, she appeared briefly in her father’s film Sangharsh (1999). Eventually, she left school to pursue acting full time. In 2012, she landed her first leading role in Student of the Year, a romantic comedy-drama that became a commercial success.

Always seeking a challenge, the Indian-British actress shifted to more demanding roles. In Highway (2014), she played an abducted woman who develops Stockholm Syndrome—a performance that earned her the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress. Since then, she’s taken on roles that highlight the realities of womanhood: a poor migrant in a story about substance abuse, an independent woman defying patriarchy, a sex worker seeking justice, and a victim of domestic abuse.

To date, Bhatt has earned over 20 Best Actress awards from the Filmfare Awards, Hollywood Critics Association, Indian Television Academy, International Indian Film Academy, and Zee Cine Awards.

Her artistry goes beyond acting—it’s about truth-telling. Bhatt’s work exposes the struggles of women, particularly in India, showing not just empathy but advocacy. While her family may have opened doors, it’s her courage to walk through them with purpose that defines her.

The Heart Behind the Spotlight

Beyond the camera, Bhatt has built a reputation as a philanthropist. Over the years, she has joined fundraisers for children battling cancer and initiatives supporting stray animals. She’s also supported underprivileged communities—auctioning her clothes to raise funds for electricity in a village, providing essentials during the pandemic, and selling the saris she wore in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (2023) to fund women’s healthcare.

Her impact extends well past her art. The actress has become a role model who leverages her influence to uplift others—mirroring the compassion and courage of the characters she portrays.

Fashion, Sustainability, and Global Influence

Accustomed to the red carpets both locally and internationally, the actress has considered fashion her third language (After Indian and English, of course). Known for her effortless modern style, she’s graced international red carpets from Cannes to Paris Fashion Week, where she walked the L’Oréal Paris runway in 2024. Her fashion presence caught the attention of Gucci, which appointed her as its Global Brand Ambassador.

But beyond the glamour, Bhatt has merged her love for style with her advocacy for sustainability. In 2020, she launched Ed-a-Mamma, a maternity and children’s clothing brand built on eco-conscious principles. The brand was named Best Vegan Kidswear Brand by PETA India’s Vegan Fashion Awards in 2021.

Through her artistry, advocacy, and entrepreneurial ventures, Alia Bhatt continues to rewrite what influence looks like—authentic, purposeful, and inspiring.
