Movies Coming to Cinemas in August 2026
Cinemalaya 22
Cinemalaya is back for its 22nd edition as nine new Filipino movies look to both entertain and enlighten audiences about the realities Filipinos face but are often relegated to the sidelines. These movies not only bring a fresh coat of creativity and craftsmanship to local cinema, but also have something to say about the lives of Filipinos today, the good and the bad. The film festival will run from August 6-18 with Red Carpet Cinemas at Shangri-La Plaza, select Ayala Malls Cinemas, and Gateway Cineplex serving as partner venues for screenings. KATSEYE: WILD HEARTS
August is a big month for KATSEYE. Not only are they releasing their new EP, but the girl group also has a documentary coming to cinemas. The movie follows the group as they prepare for their latest era with behind-the-scenes footage, interviews, exclusive moments, and more. It will play only in SM Cinemas starting August 12.
The End Of Oak Street
What would you do if your entire neighborhood suddenly transported to the time of the dinosaurs? That’s the premise of this intriguing sci-fi action film starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor. After a mysterious cosmic event rips Oak Street from suburbia and transports their neighborhood to someplace unknown, the Platt family soon discovers that their very survival depends on them sticking together as they navigate their now unrecognizable surroundings. See this in cinemas on August 12.
Insidious: Out of the Further
Three years after The Red Door, the latest entry in the Insidious saga is finally here, and it looks to deliver yet another scary time in the cinema. It centers on Gemma (Amelia Eve), a young mother raising her daughter in the house she grew up in, who discovers she can travel into The Further, the purgatorial realm of lost souls at the heart of the Insidious universe.

One Night Only
Callum Turner and Monica Barbaro in a rom-com? That’s what you’re getting in this film from Easy A and Anyone But You director Will Gluck. Recently dumped Owen (Callum Turner) and hopeful romantic Allie (Monica Barbaro) might be the only two singles in the city looking for more than just a quick encounter.
They both feel a spark when they meet, but a series of missteps and side quests complicate their night, keeping them apart. As they each race toward and away from each other across the city, they just might discover that the one thing they want most is closer than they think. It will play in cinemas starting August 26.
Filipiñana
After making waves at international film festivals in the first half of 2026, Rafael Manuel’s Filipiñana is getting a wide release in local cinemas this month. The movie tells the story of a 17-year-old teenager named Isabel (Jorrybell Agoto) from Ilocos who gets a job as a caddie and tee girl at an exclusive country club.
It is here that she meets Dr. Palanca (Teroy Guzman), the golf club’s owner and president, whom she slowly becomes curious about. But as Isabel digs deeper into the club, she navigates a world run by money, wealth, class, privilege, and exploitation and discovers dark truths that the club’s members would rather keep secret. The Dog Stars
In case you didn’t know, Ridley Scott has a new movie releasing this month, and it’s a post-apocalyptic sci-fi film featuring an A-list cast that includes Jacob Elordi, Margaret Qualley, and Josh Brolin. Set in a world that’s been nearly wiped out due to a flu pandemic, the film centers on Hig, a former civilian pilot, and Bangley, a hardened former Marine, as they confront dangerous threats and hold onto the possibility of a better life beyond where they currently live. It will play exclusively in SM Cinemas on August 26.
Hope
After premiering at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, Korean director Na Hong-jin’s latest sci-fi action thriller is coming to Philippine cinemas. The monster movie centers on a group of villagers who must fend off alien monsters in a rural town. While the set-up may not be the most inventive, it looks to impress with its slick, stylish, and crowd-pleasing action, making for a thrilling experience. Considering that this comes from the same director who gave us modern Korean hits such as The Chaser and The Wailing, it’s going to be an adrenaline-filled adventure. Sterling Point
Ready to obsess over another teen series on Prime Video? Sterling Point is a heartfelt, coming-of-age drama led by 17-year-old Annie Jacobson (Ella Rubin). Raised in New York City with her twin brother (Keen Ruffalo) and loving adoptive father (Jay Duplass), Annie’s life takes a turn when she inherits her mysterious grandfather’s island in Canada. There, she finds new friends, budding romances, and untold family secrets. The show will begin streaming on Prime Video on August 5.
The Ninth Jedi
The world of the animated Star Wars: Visions series expands with The Ninth Jedi. Part of an all-new Star Wars: Visions Presents banner, which will be used to tell longer-form Star Wars: Visions stories, the limited series picks up not long after the events of the Visions shorts: The Ninth Jedi and The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope. In the new series, Lah Kara continues to train in the ways of the Jedi under Margrave Juro. Kara goes on an epic journey of self-discovery as she and Juro’s small fellowship of Jedi-in-training embark on a quest to save her father. It will stream exclusively on Disney+ starting August 5.
The Shards
From creator Ryan Murphy comes a new teen mystery drama that’s part coming-of-age drama, part erotic thriller. In the untamed and mysterious LA of 1981, a group of privileged high schoolers spends their days chasing parties, romance, and each other’s secrets. That is until a serial killer starts stalking the city right as a new student arrives in town. Uncover the mystery when the series premieres on Disney+ on August 6.
The Last House

Our Sticky Love
A new rom-com K-drama is coming your way courtesy of Netflix in Our Sticky Love. It follows Go Eun-sae (Ha Young), a prosecutor who lost her memory, and Jang Tae-ha (Jung Hae-in), a boxing coach who claims to be her boyfriend. As the two end up living together, a strange arrangement in the small town of Taffy Village turns into a quirky, sweet romance with a hint of secrets and small-town mysteries. Ganito, Ganyan, Ganoon
Netflix’s latest original Filipino movie puts the spotlight on the all-too-relatable tale of mothers and daughters. Starring Jodi Sta. Maria and Agot Isidro, the two play an estranged mother and daughter duo. Jo (Sta. Maria) is a TV writer on the precipice of a career-defining move. She is thrown off-course by the return of her mother, Paz (Isidro), after decades of living in New York City and eventually made to confront the buried wounds from her childhood—the pain that has defined and followed her well into adulthood. Call My Manager
HBO Max is slowly getting into original Philippine content, and one of its first offerings is an Erik Matti-directed series starring Judy Ann Santos. The eight-episode drama dives into the high-pressure world of Shine Artist Management, following elite talent managers Andrea, Matthew, and Gabriel. Renowned for their unwavering devotion to their clients’ careers, the trio’s professional facade begins to crack when their chaotic personal lives collide with the demands of the office—threatening to destroy everything they have built. The HBO Original will debut on the streaming service on August 13.
Camp Rock 3
No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. There is a new Camp Rock movie coming, and this one aims to tell the story of a new generation of stars. Older, wiser, and gearing up for a major reunion tour, Connect 3 hits a bump on the road: their opening act just dropped out. With time running out, they go back to where it all began to host a high-stakes competition for their new tour opener-one that could turn an unknown talent into the next big sensation.
With the Jonas Brothers and Maria Canals-Barrera reprising their roles (Demi Lovato sadly doesn’t, but she does serve as an executive producer on the film), Camp Rock 3 is a nostalgic, high-energy, and heartfelt look at fame, growing up, and the music that brought it all together-for the fans who grew up with it, and the new ones just discovering it. Return to Camp Rock on August 14 on Disney+.
Lanterns
The first live-action series of the DCU is here, and it focuses on the Green Lanterns with a crime-drama twist. The show follows experienced and legendary Lantern Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), who is being trained by Jordan to replace him, as they investigate a murder in Rushville, Nebraska, which Jordan believes is an extraterrestrial incident and leads them to darker mysteries and discoveries. The Last Sunrise
Based on the popular novel by Anna Todd, The Last Sunrise follows Ry (Maia Reficco), a college student with a chronic illness, on a summer escape to Mallorca with her mother (Eva Longoria).
