SB19 Continues Their Journey as They Celebrate Their Fourth Anniversary

By

SB19, the band that changed the mindset of every Filipino towards P-Pop, celebrates its fourth year in the music industry.

It’s no secret that K-Pop has always been prevalent throughout the music preferences of this generation. Because of this, the genre created a drastic influence on Filipino music and social media—and the Philippines’ own SB19 is one of the groups that were affected by that influence. However, it’s now SB19 that’s making an influence as they continue to rise even higher. To commemorate the group’s fourth year in the music industry, here’s a timeline of their inspiring journey.

2018: The Debut

The group’s three-year training under ShowBT Philippines Corporation taught them the strict Korean idol system, which focuses on the holistic development of a potential artist in every aspect of performing.

In a previous interview, the group shared how they almost gave up on pursuing their career because the job requires a lot of strength and commitment, yet has no steady income to cater to their daily necessities. Back then, only Stell, the band’s main vocalist and lead dancer, decided to stay and continue his dream. But eventually, this decision became an impact of encouragement towards Pablo (leader and main rapper), Josh (lead rapper and sub-vocalist), Ken (main dancer and lead vocalist), and Justin (sub-vocalist).

After more training and perseverance, the band finally debuted with their first single, “Tilaluha,” a modern take on the ballad OPM expertise of Filipino singers.

2019: The Comeback

Although there were a lot of hurdles along the way before SB19 slowly bore the fruit of their labor, the boy band did not easily give up their dreams. The song “Go Up” marked as their comeback song in what became known as the P-Pop industry. The band members wrote the song in which the lyrics personally talk about their rough journey.

They eventually gained popularity when one netizen noticed their impressive dance moves and shared the news on Twitter. From then, Filipinos started searching the video and sent feedback about SB19, saying that the group has potential and is still distinguishable from K-Pop groups.

2020: The Local Recognition

The following year, SB19 received three respective awards that recognized their breakthrough name in the world of Filipino music. They were invited to perform live for the WISH 107.5 Music Awards in which they were awarded Wishclusive Pop Performance of the Year and Wish Breakthrough Artist of the Year.

And despite the height of the pandemic, SB19’s journey continued as they were also given recognition during the MYX Awards as Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for “Go Up.”

This is also the same year when SB19 released its first album, Get in the Zone. Inside the album are six original compositions of the group with the purpose to inspire through impactful lyricism about their journey.

2021: The International Presence

Proclaimed as “P-Pop Royalties of the Philippines,” SB19 became the first Filipino and Southeast Asian group nominated at the Billboard Music Awards alongside other Asian artists like BTS, BLACKPINK, and SEVENTEEN. That same year, they released the songs “What?,” “Pagsibol,” and “Ligaya.”

2022: The P-Pop Reign

SB19 now officially celebrates their fourth anniversary after wrapping up an appearance at the POPSTIVAL 2022. “WYAT (Where You At)” marks the newest release of the band, and it has now gained 3.6M streams on Spotify as of writing. The single, which became a favorite of their loyal fans called A’tins, has an upbeat melody that combines a meaningful story about reconnecting with people amidst the ongoing restrictions of the pandemic.

After four years in the music industry, there’s definitely no stopping SB19 from achieving even greater heights as they continue to carve their name in the history of music, both locally and internationally.
