Being part of a girl group, and one whose footprint extends across the world, feels like a dream. Doing what you love alongside members who share the same passions as you is a life that many are willing to spend years working towards. But the perfection projected by these groups hides the fact that sometimes, it’s not always smooth sailing, and it’s not directly your fault. That’s the situation Filipino-Argentinian K-pop idol and actress Chanty Videla currently finds herself in with her recent reveal of the status of Lapillus.

Not Disbanded, But Inactive

On a recent episode of Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, Chanty was asked directly whether Lapillus is disbanded. It should be noted that the K-pop girl group hasn’t been active for a while, with their last post on Instagram being nearly a year ago in April 2025. Instead of giving a cookie-cutter answer, Chanty spoke frankly by saying that Lapillus has not officially disbanded but that it’s also hard to definitively answer that question since she and the other members have not been given any updates by their company, MLD Entertainment, regarding the group’s future.

Hanggang ngayon talaga, hindi po kami binibigyan ng update ng company. So hanggang ngayon, we’re just literally stagnant and doing our own stuff lang,” she told Tito Boy. The Sparkle artist added that whatever may happen to the group during their current state of limbo, whether they do another comeback or disband, she just hopes it’s on good terms. “So kung ano man po ‘yung maging conclusion ng company at some point, we’re just hoping na it’s the best for everyone na lang.”

Debuting in 2022, Lapillus entered the scene with hype behind them as MLD Entertainment’s next girl group, as some of the members were already known to K-pop fans, and the lineup included a Filipina, making Chanty one of a handful of Filipino K-pop idols. However, as time went on, the group wasn’t as active as fans would have wanted, with their last proper comeback being in 2023. The situation also reminds us of what’s currently happening with Manon and her temporary hiatus from KATSEYE as announced by HYBE and Geffen, which has led to questions from fans and speculation regarding her future in the group.

It goes without saying that the members of Lapillus deserve better. Vague statements, mismanagement, and inaction from companies and agencies only hurt the members in the long run as their potential ends up being wasted, not to mention the years they spent as trainees.

Still, Chanty is keeping busy with her showbiz career in the Philippines. She most recently appeared on the GMA youth series MAKA and is currently a celebrity contestant on the reality dance competition Stars on the Floor season 2, where she gets to showcase her performing abilities. Regardless of the group’s eventual fate, we have a feeling Chanty and the rest of the members will be able to bounce back with new opportunities.
