Once seen as an outlier and not taken seriously by the general public, P-pop has become a growing force in the local music scene that has even been making waves on the international stage, thanks in no small part to the continued success of SB19 and BINI. When there used to be only a few groups active, now there are dozens of girl and boy groups on the scene, and their fanbases around the world.
Competition isn’t the name of the game here, but a community where the success of one is the success of all. It’s this energy that was felt throughout P-POP UNITE: The Convention last June 24. Presented by Billboard Philippines, P-pop Unite was more than just a concert, but a celebration of Filipino music, culture, and fandom that brought together a lineup of more than 20 P-pop groups and acts under one roof.

What Went Down at P-Pop Unite
Hundreds of fans gathered at SPACE at One Ayala in Makati City for the P-pop-centric event. The energy was lively and vibrant as guests readied themselves for the day that was to come. Outside the main hall, multiple booths, activations, interactive experiences, and fan activities awaited attendees. There was also a meet-and-greet area for fans to have an up-close and personal encounter with their favorite P-pop groups.
Actor and musician Jeremy Glinoga kicked off the main program as host, as he welcomed everyone to the event and helped bring the crowd’s energy up to appropriate levels. Following opening speeches from Anne Bernisca, COO and Publisher of Modern Media Group Inc., and Bret Jackson, Chief of Editorial Content at Billboard Philippines, the program kicked into high gear with performances and appearances from the lineup.
It was hours of back-to-back stages from P-pop groups, both established, such as BGYO, G22, and KAIA, and new to the scene, like FINA, HARA, and XONARA. With each group coming on stage, fans cheered while casual viewers became new fans as they performed live and showcased their talent, charisma, and stage presence. A who’s who of acts, from YGIG, AJAA, VXON, HORI7ON, Alamat, DNA, and more, each took to the stage to an enthusiastic crowd for a moment of P-pop excellence. Each group brought something different to the stage that highlighted their unique persona and artistry.
A Day That Brought Together P-Pop
It wasn’t just performances on the itinerary, as there was also an insightful industry-driven panel led by Bret Jackson and featuring creatives from Star Magic, most notably Laurenti Dyogi, on the behind-the-scenes work that goes into making a P-pop group. If there was love from the fans, that admiration and camaraderie were also felt among the P-pop idols themselves, who took the moment to catch up with old friends, make new connections, and yes, do TikTok collaborations with other P-pop groups and artists backstage.
With a day dedicated to celebrating P-pop, it felt appropriate that the program ended with a special appearance from the Sexbomb Girls, one of the pioneers of girl groups in the Philippines, who delivered a special message to the crowd on how P-pop has come a long way from when they started.
As P-pop continues to grow locally and abroad, P-POP UNITE: The Convention showed many just how special the genre is. P-pop isn’t just music, but a culture and an expression of who Filipinos are artistically.
When some would rather put down P-pop artists and their fans, P-pop Unite spotlighted the passion, talent, and community that make P-pop what it is. Watching nearly two dozen artists do what they do best was a treat that reminded why P-pop deserves the attention, recognition, and support it deserves.
