Is it pants or is it a skirt? What used to be the traditional Japanese pants donned by samurais now has its modern interpretation
In the past, the hakama pants were worn by Japanese samurais and martial artists, and the wide pant legs provided a great range of movement, which made these pants essential for fighting and horseback riding. Eventually, the hakama pants became part of Japanese traditional wear, worn by nobles to imply high status among themselves, which then trickled down to traditional activities such as tea ceremonies and classical dances.
