Pinoy Pride Awardee for Fashion Heart Evangelista is in a Good Place Right Now

“What makes me proud as a Filipino is how we’ve always been fighters. In the kind of arena that I’m in, I feel like everybody is really going for it. Everybody is really proud of who they are. And because we aren’t as afraid, we’re more confident the farther we get with our dreams.”

Artist, actress, philanthropist, and global fashion darling Heart Evangelista, while constantly on the move these days, is in a good place right now. “I feel like because I am very confident of who I’ve become, and I have more or less a good idea of who I will be, I can take my time,” she shares. “I could say no to a couple of things. I could put my foot down. I’m not afraid to be a little bit feisty, to have more character.” She pauses before continuing, “I’m proud of the personality that I have now. I feel like, because of that vibe, it gives a certain aura that you have the power to say no, which opens up a lot of doors—it’s like a reverse reaction, and I’m just more chill.”

Perhaps, this is the part of Evangelista’s je ne sais quoi that has endeared her to people from all walks of life all over the world, from the giants of fashion to her fans at home. Her sense of style reflects it, she describes it as “I wear what pleases my heart.” It’s not always trendy or expensive, as long as it makes her feel good. This breezy and unapologetic way of moving through life is not easy to do, but Evangelista seems to have found the secret to its rhythm.

But it’s not always rosy in Evangelista’s world. In her twenty-seven years in the entertainment industry, Evangelista has been through many challenges, and most of them in the public eye. “I have had a lot of ups and downs in my life. I have totally lost a career at some point,” she admits. But she knows that everything comes in seasons and what goes around, comes around. “I will never forget those who are kind to me. No matter where life takes me, I will take them with me if I can.”

As for those who aren’t so kind and for the challenges she’s facing now, Evangelista says, “I don’t think about what other people want to say or do to me. I am on my own lane, my own path. I feel like nothing’s really blocking me. I’m surrounded by good people, and again, it all boils down to what’s meant for you, will always be for you.” She adds glibly, “So I’m in a really chill situation right now, and because I’m chill, my skin is good!”
