EXCLUSIVE: Love, Growth, and Second Chances in XO, Kitty Season 3

MEGA chats with Anna Cathcart and Sang Heon Lee on the bittersweet moments in Kitty and Min Ho’s relationship.

Spoilers ahead for XO, Kitty Season 3.

The chaotic world of Kitty Song-Covey returns—this time with the pressure of graduating from KISS, getting into college, and navigating her complicated relationship with Min Ho Moon, the guy she never expected to fall for.

But like every season of Netflix’s XO, Kitty, relationships are never as simple as they seem. This time, it comes with fragile trust, misunderstandings, and the glamorous world of red carpets and celebrities—a space Kitty struggles to find herself in. And as Min Ho travels the world as a manager, his heart remains with Kitty. Still, love isn’t as effortless as Min Ho’s skincare routine.

Throughout the season, Kitty and Min Ho are undeniably in love—but as Min Ho spends more time abroad with the biggest celebrities, Kitty begins to waver. After all, isn’t she just a girl-next-door, half-Korean student? Trust is broken, and the two break apart. But it isn’t over—not with a love so sweet and tender.

Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder

One of the season’s strongest moments is watching two people grow and find themselves during their time apart. They eventually reunite in a cinematic train station—where Min Ho, of course, learns how to use the subway. Because isn’t love learning how to navigate each other’s worlds?

From Min Ho’s pining in the first season to their magical kiss this time, Korean actor Sang Heon Lee believes that their relationship was never going to be easy. “Between juggling work, his father, and Kitty… the bumps were inevitable,” Lee reflected. “There will be some hardships, and they just happened to face them in a very hard way. But they sort of sorted themselves out, and they landed where they needed to be emotionally and physically. I’m happy for them.”

“There are always going to be bumps in a relationship like theirs, because they’ve worked so hard on it—but that doesn’t mean it will always be smooth.”

They say absence makes the heart grow fonder—and it did for Min Ho and Kitty, who still yearned for each other from a distance. “Sometimes, you realize how much you want something when you don’t have it,” Canadian-Chinese actress Anna Cathcart shared. “Their breakup heightened how much they regret how things ended, how much they want to be together, and the effort they want to make it work again.”

Ultimately, time apart allowed them to better understand themselves—and become stronger partners for each other.

Where Love Meets Ambition

This season of XO, Kitty also explored Kitty’s options for her future: stay in Seoul or go to NYU? After several episodes of debating, she ultimately chose the latter—a defining and empowering moment for her character as she dives into something uncertain, without a safety net.

This decision also pushes Min Ho—a man often driven by expectations—to finally figure out what he wants for himself. He chases Kitty down to the subway station before she leaves, giving their relationship a second chance.

“Min Ho gave off this bittersweet smile where he’s okay and is truly happy that Kitty is happy,” Cathcart shared. “I think the whole moment and throughout the character, there was a moment of realization that, you know, this is where things get sort of real. And it’s not always the magical moments that we always dream of.”

“I think they were each going through it on their own, but that time apart showed them how much they truly needed each other—and ultimately helped them grow in the long run.”

– Anna Cathcart

Compared to earlier seasons, Kitty shows a new level of confidence in herself by the end of this chapter. She first went to KISS partly for a boy, but mostly to explore her Korean identity. Now, she’s choosing NYU for herself.

“In the past, we’ve seen Kitty make fearless choices, but in her senior year, especially with Min Ho, she needed that extra boost. It was something she’d never really faced before,” Lee shared. “But now she’s grown a lot and is in a different and more challenging stage in her life.”

In the end, Kitty and Min Ho prove that their relationship is more than just young love—it’s a reminder that love doesn’t always mean sacrificing personal ambition. Season three of XO, Kitty is about characters growing into the people they’re meant to become, even if that means taking separate paths first.

Compared to the whirlwind romance and complicated relationships of earlier seasons, Kitty and Min Ho’s connection evolves into something grounded in understanding and support. And as they step into adulthood—college, careers, and new responsibilities—growing up ultimately means finding their way back to each other, stronger than before.

XO, Kitty Season 3 is now streaming on Netflix.
