Latonio believes that consumers today crave a little whimsy. “What captivates a lot of people is the fact that what’s usually associated with structure, seriousness, and—personally—masculinity is manipulated into something effeminate with a bow,” he reflected. His bow bags are handmade by Marikina artisans, crafted with both precision and heart.
“There’s a certain nuance in how I come up with details that not only convey a message, but ensure it’s well executed,” he added. The interpolation of masculine and feminine ideals extends beyond aesthetic—Latonio considers every aspect, from his choice of materials to strap design, ensuring both beauty and comfort.

“I think people look for a well-rounded bag that conveys the tradition of function and the modernity of expression,” the young designer shared, honored that many people have found balance in his bow bags. Versatility and flexibility is also what Filipinos have been looking for. To splurge is a luxury, and it’s only natural to find a bag that both elevates and complements any look.
For the young designer, a modern bag represents a freedom to express and to find joy even in everyday life. “There’s a beauty in the desire for expression—modernity and the freedom of choice,” Latonio said happily.
“The dream of a brighter future where everyone recognizes the name ‘Reese Collins Latonio’ and associates my designs with storytelling and trans excellence is what inspired me to start a bag label—a stepping stone to a global fashion brand.”

R/STUDIOS
For Renée De Guzman of R/STUDIOS, craftsmanship and storytelling have always gone hand in hand. “The vision of R/STUDIOS is rooted in creating a tangible memory that is made for you,” she said. Her designs speak through thoughtful silhouettes and distinctive hardware, reflecting both modern tastes and timeless artistry.
“My brand believes in being able to connect people through the storytelling that comes along with every piece the brand makes. It is about being intentional with the design, quality, and craftsmanship.”
– Renée De Guzman of R/STUDIOS
At first glance, a bag’s shape might capture attention—but De Guzman believes it’s the emotional connection that makes it last. “This goes the same for being Filipino—we are emotional and see things with empathy, which is something that translates into my designs,” she shared.

To her, the essence of modern design lies in intention. “The voice of the designer needs to be heard through the brand and the pieces put out, because communications and relationships are built with people who appreciate the brand and its designs,” De Guzman added.
The Pouve
The Pouve began from Rainne Christien’s everyday frustration—stained makeup pouches and the endless switching of bags. Her debut collection, The Versette, was designed to adapt to the rhythm of a modern woman’s life. “It was never about entering a competitive industry; it was about solving real problems with intention and creating a bag women would truly want to live with,” the designer expressed.
Christien believes that modernity is found in subtle confidence. “I think a modern bag stands out when it looks effortless. It doesn’t need to shout for attention; it simply belongs with you, wherever you go.”

Her brand mirrors the Filipino woman: resilient, stylish, and full of grace. “Filipinos have this way of choosing joy and style, even when life is full of challenges,” the designer pondered. The Pouve celebrates the beauty of simplicity, where every curve, texture, and stitch reflects the artistry and soul of the Filipino spirit. With today’s modern Filipina always on the go, they have started to prioritize versatility over trends.. “More people now are choosing pieces they can hold onto for years, bags that are timeless, not just trendy for one season,” she observed.
“I want it to stand as a cultural symbol of modern luxury. A label women instinctively reach for, not only because it’s timeless, effortless, and magnetic, but because carrying one represents belonging to something bigger.”
– Rainne Christien of The Pouve
Among today’s landscape of bags, the designer believes that true modern luxury lies in anticipation and community. Take it from the brand, who chose to build a waitlist before their official release. It has always been about building a sense of belonging than just selling a bag. “The Pouve is proof that a clear vision and a strong community can create movement before a single piece is launched. That’s what modern luxury truly is today: anticipation, storytelling, and belonging.”
Talao Studio
Alda Lim’s Talao Studio is rooted in quiet rebellion—a resistance against treating bags as mere status symbols, but as pieces that carry stories and the hands that shape them. “Our pieces are designed not just to impress, but to spark conversation—crafted with discipline, soul, and the courage to do things our own way,” Lim said.
A reflection of Filipino artistry, Talao Studios is rooted in local pride, embracing soulful relationships, creativity, and the determination of Filipino life. “We’re inspired by tight-knit communities and the spirit of bayanihan—uplifting each other,” she explained.

Filipino consumers today seek a story and honesty. “When a customer puts on a Talao bag and feels seen, not just sold to—that’s success.” Lim recalled a customer finding a handwritten note tucked inside her bag, which transformed her purchase into a personal keepsake. “That connection, from maker to owner, is the soul of Talao. That’s the intimacy people crave now: real meaning, real connection.”
“I want Talao to stand for a new Filipino luxury—recognized globally for craft, honesty, and soul. My dream is that “Made in the Philippines” is spoken with the same reverence as “Made in Italy.””
– Alda Lim of Talao Studio
More than ever, Filipino consumers are searching for meaning in modern bags—not just a place to dump their keepsakes. “Lasting brands are those that build trust piece by piece, that leave a mark,” Lim says. “If we’ve moved someone to feel a little prouder, a little more connected, then Talao has done its work.”
In the end, the modern Filipino bag is more than a statement piece—it’s a story that withstands trends. Whether it’s a bow that sparks joy in the office, the structured bag tote that evokes emotions, the pouch that moves seamlessly from office to rooftop, or a creased leather bag beautifully worn by life, each one embodies both craft and character. What makes it stand out isn’t just its silhouette, but the heart, history, and soul stitched into every detail.
