At every State of the Nation Address (SONA), where formality is law and image is currency, Heart Evangelista arrived fluent. As the Senate’s First Lady and President of the Senate Spouses Foundation, she left her fashion pedigree in full view, but when has she ever done otherwise? She wore two Michael Leyva looks that landed her on MEGA’s best dressed for the occasion: respectful of the moment, yet very, very aware of the frame.

The Barong Rewritten
Leyva calls this “a modern nod to the classic silhouette”—a dance between heritage and modernity. The look consists of a piña barong-style top with oversized, callado-embroidered sleeves, paired with a white woven skirt dotted with pearls. Crafted from locally sourced piña, it was an ode to Filipino artisans, and a statement from a modern Filipina who doesn’t do boxes.
A Leyva Filipiniana
Come afternoon, as the President addressed the nation, Heart returns in an A-line Filipiniana gown in soft organza fabric. “The look was kept minimal and clean, allowing the silhouette and fabric to speak,” Leyva says. A welcome exhale after the morning’s choreography, proving elegance is knowing when to speak, and when to simply be.
At the end of the day, what truly distinguishes Heart is her instinct for restraint when the moment demands it. Both looks were pared down like a well-rehearsed silence in a room that rarely knows it… and did anyone else catch the total absence of lobe diamonds? You know she’s mastered the art of saying plenty with little.
