Six years before she would walk down the aisle, beauty creator Belle Rodolfo had already written it down.

Like many couples navigating lockdown together, Belle and veterinarian Deng Garcia found comfort in shared hobbies. During the pandemic, they built a cat-themed time capsule and tucked away letters to their future selves, to be opened a decade later. In hers, Belle made a prediction: “I already know that by the time we open this, we will be married.”

“She doesn’t know this,” Belle laughed. The certainty wasn’t surprising. After meeting, it only took four months for the couple to move in together. Years later, that certainty led them to Denmark, where they exchanged vows surrounded by the people they love most.

The Road to “I Do”

Overlooking the Danish coast is Kronborg Castle, the centuries-old fortress in Helsingør best known as the setting of Shakespeare’s Hamlet. It was here that Belle and Deng tied the knot in front of their closest friends and family. Among European destinations, Denmark stood out for one reason: it has become one of the easiest places for international couples to legally marry.

“Apparently, it’s such a huge thing there. Everybody in Europe gets married in Denmark because they make it so easy for everybody,” Belle explained. Originally, the couple had planned to marry at Copenhagen City Hall. When availability became an issue, they found themselves exchanging vows at Kronborg instead.

“Some things I had to let go aesthetically because, obviously, it’s not a city center,” Belle shared. “So, maraming kaming bagay na sinimplihan lang din. [We simplified a lot of things.]”

Aside from securing visas and organizing travel, the couple also had to make difficult decisions regarding their guest list. What was initially planned as a 30-person celebration was eventually reduced to just 10 guests on short notice. Still, the smaller guest list ultimately made the celebration feel even more intimate.

The wedding wardrobe reflected the couple’s distinct personalities while honoring the life they have built together.

For the ceremony, Belle wore a dreamy Martin Bautista dress featuring a convex neckline, pleated skirt detailing, and the designer’s signature billowing drape worn as a shawl. Its midi-length silhouette was a deliberate decision, prioritizing ease of movement as she wandered the city’s cobblestone streets over the grandeur of a traditional gown.

Deng, meanwhile, wore a custom racer-back creation by Randolf adorned with embroidered portraits of their beloved cats—a tribute to the animals they have raised and loved throughout their relationship. The barong featured a cropped front for a contemporary edge, while the coattails at the back paid homage to her past life as a musician with the band Flying Ipis.

“Her outfit is very meaningful to us because it featured our cats and the one dog, who passed away before,” Belle explained.

For their second look, Belle re-wore a custom J.Ro Alarcio ensemble paired with a custom Randolf veil embroidered with the rest of their cats. Deng changed into a backless Jill Sander shirt that Belle had thrifted herself.

Their looks couldn’t have been more different, but together they reflected the dynamic that has long defined their relationship: distinct individuals building a shared life.

You May Kiss the Bride

Belle had already made one thing clear to her TikTok followers before the wedding: she would be doing her own glam. She even brought her audience along while shopping for products, offering glimpses into the beauty details behind the big day.

Belle’s wedding glam

To prepare, Belle enlisted the help of makeup artist Jason Delos Reyes during a studio shoot, treating the session as a crash course in recreating the look herself. While she initially had doubts about taking on the responsibility of doing her own wedding makeup, the beauty creator ultimately rose to the challenge, transforming into a soft, doe-eyed bride on her wedding day.

Among the details she obsessed over, one of the most memorable was a surprisingly practical decision involving their lip products. “Mine will be a long-lasting liquid lip, while Deng will do a glowy balm,” Belle told MEGA. “But for the second layer, we’ll be using the same lip product so our lip combos won’t transfer when we kiss.”

It’s the kind of detail only a couple deeply attuned to one another would think about—a detail so undeniably romantic.

A Marriage Recognized Abroad

Yet for all the joy surrounding their wedding, returning home comes with a complicated reality. While their marriage is recognized abroad, it remains legally unrecognized in the Philippines. “There’s nothing here for the gays who want to get married,” Belle said candidly. “But our home is here.”

Even so, she finds comfort in knowing their union is recognized elsewhere. “Despite not being recognized in our own country, the idea that we are married in 30 countries is enough for me.”

And if the day comes when same-sex marriage is legalized in the Philippines, Belle already knows where they’ll be.

“Sometimes, you have to pave the way for yourself because of the nature of our identity.”

For the Queers

As Belle and Deng begin married life together, they hope their story encourages other queer couples dreaming of a future of their own. “For sapphics who want to plan a life together, if you want to make it happen elsewhere, make it happen if you have the privilege to, because I think the time is now,” Belle shared.

It’s advice rooted in experience—and in a love story that crossed continents to become official.

Denmark is a popular destination for international couples because of its relatively accessible legal requirements for foreign nationals. European couples in particular travel to Denmark — including to venues like Copenhagen City Hall and Kronborg Castle — because the country streamlines the process compared to many other jurisdictions.
