MEGA Women to Watch: Skye Chua

“I just wish I prepared more for this,” Skye Chua admits, reflecting on her performance at the 2025 Asian Open Figure Skating Trophy. It was the first competition of the season, she had trained in Japan—endured grueling early-morning practices, and mapped out her personal goals, yet, for this perfectionist, it still wasn’t enough. “The personal goals I set for myself… hindi ko na-achieve [I didn’t achieve] during the competition,” she says.

It’s not disappointment that laces her tone, but a steady drive. Skye doesn’t dwell on missteps, she studies them. In her world, progress isn’t measured against anyone else’s medal count, but against yesterday’s version of herself. “Success is looking at yourself and knowing, and feeling, that you’re getting better each day,” she explains. “Yung kalaban mo lang talaga is yourself [Your real competition is with yourself].” The thing is, Skye isn’t only chasing perfection on the ice, she’s also chasing it under the glare of studio lights.
