Named after the Roman god Janus, the god of beginnings, January is symbolic of a new start to the year. Despite how things may have gone in the previous year, there’s always the opportunity to start again. One of the best ways to do that is by adjusting your mindset. Whether you have specific goals you want to achieve or simply want to navigate the year without expecting too much, having the right mindset can make a significant difference in changing your outlook, mood, and motivation for the next twelve months.

With how life has become so chaotic, fast-paced, curated, and overoptimized these days, now is a great time to recenter and approach life with a lot more meaning. Below, we list a few mindsets we’re ready to emulate and embody to make the most of the year.

MEGA Lifestyle Forecast 2026: Less Rush, More Meaning

Supporting Work Done By Real Humans

In 2025, AI was everywhere. Work, school, movies, media, you name it, AI was probably in it. While AI, when used right, can be a tool for further development and enhancement, the problem is that generative AI has turned content into AI slop, studying into asking ChatGPT, hard work into using AI tools to solve everything, and not to mention the extreme negative impact AI has on the environment.

One of the hardest hit aspects of life with the popularity of AI is creativity, and in 2026, that needs to change. Instead of consuming short-form AI-generated content with little to no meaning, go watch content created by actual artists, creators, and artisans. Instead of saving AI art on your Pinterest or listening to AI music, consume the real thing. Read a book, go to a museum, and watch a movie in full. Support real artists, make your own art, and just be creative.

Taking Care Of Ourselves

Algorithms have conditioned us into thinking that life is only worth living if you’re at 100% all the time. But that’s not the way to live. Hustle culture is not the default factory setting of human beings. In 2026, prioritize your well-being and health over the superficial highs. Digital fatigue and overworking are not good for the body, so build boundaries, be intentional with your decisions, and be present in the moment. Love yourself and your life, and don’t give outside noise excuses to mess your calm and interrupt your peace. At the end of the day, the better you are to yourself, the better you can be to the people around you.

Being Proactive In Our Lives

A lot of people say that they want to manifest things in their lives. But what isn’t said out loud is how those manifestations won’t happen without action behind them. This doesn’t mean you have to plan your whole year down to the minute. As simple as showing up for yourself and doing what you need to do for the day is enough. Give yourself the space and grace to rest, then get to it. Life, after all, is a series of choices, and being passive will more often than not lead to unwelcome outcomes. You have control over your life, so take charge and lead it to where you want to go.

Having Fun

If the rise of the “2026 is the new 2016” trend and analogue lifestyles tell us anything, it’s that people want to have fun again, and as it should be. Social media has reached a point where everything feels like it should be ready for the feed and content needs to be tuned for the algorithm. But in 2026, it’s time we let that go. Personality over metrics and performance. Living life in the moment over the need to share every moment on social media. Being genuinely yourself over feed optimization. This year, it’s all about letting your authenticity shine and not taking everything too seriously, so let go and just have fun with it.

Practicing Critical Thinking

Scroll through social media comments these days, and unfortunately, you’ll notice an increase in how people are just saying whatever they want without considering the facts and circumstances. Simple statements aren’t comprehended or are blown out of proportion, assumptions are seen as truths, and proper explanations are disregarded for AI-generated answers. The rise in AI also means that it’s now harder to separate fact from fiction. This is why it’s more important than ever to practice critical thinking skills in 2026 and beyond. Read and think carefully before you post, comment, or interact on social media. Don’t take everything you see online at face value and be discerning with what you see, do, and consume.

Being Kind

Here’s an important reminder for 2026: empathy shouldn’t be a privilege only afforded to a few. It’s a basic trait that is expected to be extended to everyone. The world is already as cynical as it is; there’s no need to add to it. Being mean and ganging up on strangers online just because they’re the trending topic of the day shouldn’t be normalized. Be there for the people you love, and remember to also be kind to yourself. As early as now, negativity shouldn’t be festered in your life.
