With its mix of fake dating, college life, and hockey romance elements, Off Campus takes classic genre staples and turns them into one of the most talked-about shows of 2026. Ever since it premiered on Prime Video in May, the series has become a runaway hit, attaining a level of success that only a show permeating the cultural zeitgeist can have. Off Campus fever is palpable to the point that its second season is already in production, with Prime Video recently revealing that the new season will focus on breakout couple Dean and Allie.

As stereotypical as Off Campus may seem to be at first glance, the show has satisfied a rom-com craving for many. When done right, young adult romance will always be fun to watch. So, if you’ve already seen the show, we’ve rounded up a few recommendations to keep that feeling going.

Heated Rivalry – Shane and Ilya’s Complicated and Steamy Situationship

This is an obvious pick, but it’s here for a reason. Centering on two star hockey players, Shane and Ilya, the show follows them as they embark on a years-long secret relationship while navigating their feelings, relationships, and ambitions on the ice. While hockey romance has always been a popular genre in literature, the series arguably helped bring it even further into the mainstream thanks to the show’s unapologetic use of smut and a heartfelt and layered love story featuring two young men. Heated Rivalry is brimming with passion, tenderness, and yearning that will leave a lasting impression, even with just six episodes for its first season.

Along for the Ride – Two Insomniacs Find a Home in Each Other

Belmont Cameli is one of Off Campus’s breakout stars. But before he was Briar U’s star hockey player, he was Eli, an insomniac and one of the leads of this 2022 teen romance. Auden is an academic overachiever who spends her last summer before college in the seaside town of Coldy Beach. As an insomniac, Auden walks the town’s streets at night while everyone else is asleep.

Everyone, that is, except for Eli, who is also an insomniac. Through this shared trait, Auden and Eli form a bond that slowly turns into something more. It’s in this connection that Along for the Ride is at its best as a love story in realizing that you’re letting your walls down for someone you didn’t know you needed in your life.

Spinning Out – Tension and Drama on and off the Rink

While the series was cancelled by Netflix after one season, it’s still worth watching as one of the more underrated sports dramas on the streaming service. Kat Baker is a talented figure skater whose dreams take a turn when she suffers an injury. She’s presented with an opportunity to try again as part of a duo. Her partner is Justin Davis, a talented skater with a bad boy streak.

As the duo tries to make their partnership work, they face all sorts of challenges that test them physically, mentally, and emotionally. While the dynamic between Kat and Justin’s opposing personalities drives a lot of the drama, the series also surprises with its exploration of mental health among high-performing young athletes and the stigma it causes in families.

Maxton Hall – Rich Boy Meets Poor Girl, but Make It Compelling

If Off Campus’s college-set story of two seemingly unlikely people falling in love has you hooked, this popular young adult series, which is also a book adaptation and on Prime Video, should be on your list. Set in the prestigious school of Maxton Hall, academically-focused Ruby Bell, who is attending the school on a scholarship, witnesses a secret affair between one of the teachers and a student. Arrogant millionaire heir James Beaufort wants to make sure Ruby doesn’t spill the secret, as it involves his twin sister.

As you can imagine, their initial confrontation leads to an unexpected romantic connection. The show is bingeable material for anyone who likes enemies-to-lovers stories that both make use of and subvert genre tropes and expectations. There’s enough tension and drama here to fill multiple seasons.

Finding Her Edge – When Ice Skating Meets a Love Triangle

When teenage love and drama meet the ice rink, sparks are bound to fly. Such is the case in this Canadian Netflix series that centers on Adrianna, a competitive ice skater with a family legacy to uphold. Her path to success gets complicated when she is paired with her new skating partner, Brayden, all while still having feelings for her ex-partner Freddie, who also happens to be her ex-boyfriend. Oh, and did we mention that Adrianna and Brayden fake a romance for PR purposes? While the series also follows Adrianna’s two other sisters and their own lives, it’s this love triangle between the trio that hooks you in.

The Duff – Falling in Love With the School Jock

There’s just something about stories featuring the popular jock getting along with the social outcast. Take this underrated rom-com, for example. Based on the 2010 novel of the same name by Kody Keplinger, the film follows high school senior Bianca. She learns that her classmates have secretly named her the DUFF, or Designated Ugly Fat Friend.

Hurt by the news, she sets out to shift her reputation and change the school’s social order with the help of her longtime neighbor and jock Wesley. The more-than-friends energy between Bianca and Wesley strikes a chord in the same vein as Off Campus, while fans of movies such as Mean Girls and Easy A will find a fair share of familiar and enjoyable similarities here.

The Cutting Edge – When an Unlikely Pair Find Love

For a throwback option, this 1992 movie centers on Kate Moseley, a well-off figure skater who thinks a little too highly of herself. Her attitude and temperament have turned off many ice skating partners. So, when injured ice hockey player Doug Dorsey reluctantly teams up with Kate to be a pair for the 1992 Winter Olympics, it seems like a recipe for disaster. That is, until their cold animosity towards each other reveals a softer side. As cheesy as the set-up is, there’s something to enjoy in The Cutting Edge, especially with its opposites-attract couple and chemistry at the center of this rom-com.

The Spectacular Now – Here for the Extrovert-Introvert Relationship

Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley star in this opposites-attract movie from 2013 that’s teeming with 2010s young romance energy but in the best way possible. High school students Sutter Keely and Aimee Fineky couldn’t be more dissimilar. The former is an avid and popular partygoer who lives life to the fullest in the here and now. The latter is a nice and somewhat lowkey girl who plans for her future. One day, following a chance encounter, the two develop an unexpected bond as this extrovert-meets-introvert duo learns that they surprisingly fit in each other’s lives.

Tell Me Lies – Puts the Focus on Toxic Love

Off Campus is lauded for its healthy couple at the center of its story in Garrett and Hannah. Tell Me Lies sits on the other side of the fence in that it centers on a toxic couple whose red flags are visible from space. Still, it’s just as intriguing. Set in the late 2000s, the show revolves around the eight-year relationship of college freshman Lucy Albright and older student Stephen DeMarco.

At first, they seem like a great couple. But over time, their relationship morphs into a complicated mess that’s supercharged by the pressures of being a college student and all the changes that come with that period of young adulthood. What Lucy and Stephen go through is something no couple should experience, but there’s something to take from this series, especially in its compelling exploration of what goes into unhealthy relationships and how it pulls back from the fantasy that viewers expect from these kinds of shows.
