Here’s What You Need To Know About “Girl From Nowhere: The Reset”

Nanno is back, but she’s looking a lot different than the last time we saw her and in a completely new story.

By

Among Netflix’s many global hit shows, Girl from Nowhere is a favorite of many. The popular Thai drama-thriller series centers on a mysterious young woman named Nanno, played by Chicha “Kitty” Amatayakul, who transfers to different private schools in Thailand to expose the misdeeds and dirty secrets of faculty and staff. The show wasn’t afraid to get gritty and dark, which attracted many viewers to its compelling story. Kitty’s performance was also lauded for how she captured Nanno’s unhinged aura. Her maniacal laugh is enough to send chills down your spine.

The series originally aired its first season in 2018 and its second in 2021, with the latter ending on a cliffhanger after expanding the lore to reveal more of Nanno’s supernatural nature and that there are others like her in the world. Since then, fans have been waiting to see how and if the show will get a third season. And after five years, we finally have an update, but instead of a continuation, the show is coming back with a fresh coat of paint.

Titled Girl From Nowhere: The Reset, this season is going big with a new universe, a new story, and a new lead actress. Here’s what you need to know about the brand new series.

She’s Back

The biggest and most notable change about Girl From Nowhere: The Reset is that a new actress is playing Nanno. Instead of Kitty Amatayakul, the unsettling and creepy heroine will be played by Becky Armstrong, who you may know from the popular GL series Gap in 2022, which launched her into international stardom alongside her on-screen partner Sarocha “Freen” Chankimha.

The Gen Z Thai-British actress is set to take on another iconic franchise, and in a role that is a complete 180 from what most fans would recognize Becky for. The change in actress isn’t just because the series is a reboot, though, but also because it’s rooted in the show’s lore of how Nanno is less of an actual figure and more of a presence who can take on many forms. As such, this season will have a new avatar, though it’s the same Nanno in essence.

The story is also entirely new and set in a new universe separate from past events, so there’s no need to watch the first two seasons to get into The Reset (though we recommend you watch them regardless because of how good seasons one and two are). Nanno’s intentions remain the same, however, and the show will see her transfer to different private schools in Thailand.

The show’s official poster

Under the guise of a “new kid”, she’ll uncover the sinister secrets, lies, injustices, and scandals of the students and faculty and use their own abuse of power and shortcomings against them. Don’t expect things to be clean, though, as Nanno’s brand of justice is messy, chaotic, and occasionally violent and bloody, as seen in the show’s trailer. Girl from Nowhere: The Reset will have six episodes, with each episode revolving around a specific issue that Nanno will expose, such as extreme forms of bullying in episode one, while leaving viewers to confront and ponder the thought-provoking moral questions of what has transpired.

All in all, with a new face and a new story, this new season looks to be a reimagining of the franchise while still delivering on the twisted private school-set stories that many have come to love the series for. Add to that the franchise getting its first international remake with Japan’s Transfer Student Nanno this April, and it’s an exciting time for fans.

Girl from Nowhere: The Reset is now streaming on Netflix with a new episode dropping every week.
