A Look at Forgotten Island’s OST
Music plays a big part in many aspects of Filipino culture, and Forgotten Island takes that seriously with a soundtrack that adds to each scene and also serves as a natural extension of the movie’s understanding and exploration of Philippine culture, art, and history.
At 37 tracks long, Forgotten Island’s OST is a hefty album that reaffirms previously revealed artists and tracks featured, such as BINI’s already-released original track A Parallel World, SB19’s cover of Francis M’s Mga Kababayan, Filipino rappers Ruby Ibarra and Carl Angelo’s collaboration Salbahe Ako, and KATSEYE’s Sophia Laforteza’s cover of Never Tear Us Apart by INXS that’s said to play during an emotional moment between Jo and Raissa.

Lead stars Liza Soberano and H.E.R.’s key title track BRB opens the album, but they have one more original song on the LP with Jerk in the Box. The soundtrack also reveals Lea Salonga’s participation in the music. Aside from voicing the movie’s villain, the Manananggal, Salonga’s vocals are used throughout the score by Nathan Matthew David, who is Filipino-American.
The score itself takes inspiration from aspects of the ‘80s and ‘90s that influenced Filipino and Filipino-American culture. It also incorporates music and instruments from indigenous Filipino tribes, especially once Jo and Raissa are transported to the island of Nakali. From the Las Piñas bamboo pipe organ, gandingan, a Filipino choir, and more, the movie’s distinct Filipino energy extends throughout its soundtrack. Case in point: adding to the authenticity is many of the titles of the score’s tracks are in Tagalog or use Tagalog words that hint at the plotlines and themes Forgotten Island will tackle.
Closing the album, meanwhile, is A Parallel World – Amping Mix, a collaboration between BINI and Lea Salonga. This special rendition brings together a groundbreaking P-pop group with one of the most celebrated Filipino voices in history for an anticipated duet. It’s yet another surprise for a soundtrack that’s already making history with its spotlighting of Filipino talent, music, and culture.

The original motion picture soundtrack will drop on September 18, just a few days ahead of its release in Philippine cinemas on September 23. You can pre-order the album, which also comes in a period-accurate cassette, here.
