All the Right Notes: The Standout Trends at the 2nd Filipino Music Awards

This year’s Filipino Music Awards gave us a red carpet full of decorative delights.

By

How many accessories are too many? We’d rather not impose a limit, thank you very much. At the 2nd Filipino Music Awards, OPM’s finest had a wonderful time experimenting with decorative details, and we thoroughly enjoyed the results. Handbags, jewelry, embellishments—we welcome them all, especially when they’re worn with this much commitment.

Clutch Behavior

Xonara

The best part about P-pop girl groups is the cohesive variety they can bring—an oxymoron that XONARA did well through their clutches. Just look at them: leather, metal, studs, reflective surfaces. Yes to all of them, we say.

Meanwhile, Morissette’s handbag was already a fitting choice for her attire, yet the silhouette of her accessorry and the patchwork blossoms decorating reminded us of a lantern. Are lanterns stylish? Debatable for many, but that’s all the more reason why she stood out! And we love the contrast of its angular handle.

Full Circle

Turn around, Jolianne! The back of her black IÑIGO dress warrants so much praise, with metallic accents descending along her exposed spine like a necklace worn in reverse. The same circular fascination appears on Jason Dhakal’s ivory shirt, as five unique medallion-like ornaments run down its front. Circles are simple to draw, yet their repetition is so visually interesting, no?

The More, The Merrier

Ben&Ben

Thank you for the flowers, Jason Dy! Shimmering blue florals across his ANTONINA coat grew more abundant around his collar and his cuffs until the was wonderfully lush. There was a similar enthusiasm for decoration in Ben&Ben’s coordinated outfits, although they carried their jewels and gems on their chest pockets instead. We appreciate the dedication for more.

Pin It on Me

A brooch collection is an excellent thing to have, judging by the ones worn by Amiel Sol and Wilbert Ross. The latter took the minimal route, arranging three organic shapes along his lapel. On the other hand, Sol’s maximal golden brooch with dangling pearls was absolutely the right choice. Plus points for the heirloom charm, honestly. We have a soft spot for anything that remotely exudes .

Here’s to more red carpets like this. We love seeing Filipino artists enjoy going the extra mile when it comes to style, and we hope they keep having fun with it!
