Marni S/S27 Is Made to Have Fun With
Rogge works with plenty of familiar pieces, from straight dresses that stop around the knee to collared shirts worn with tiny skirts. Capri pants are back in his wardrobe, too, and we can certainly go along with that. There’s an ease to the collection that makes its stranger decisions all the more charming. It’s Marni, after all, so who wants to be normal anyway?
Giant buckles interrupt otherwise simple garments, including a burgundy shift we’d happily wear as is, while patchworked leather and exaggerated proportions make the bags much stranger. One prim plaid dress comes with a purse that looks pieced together from several others. It’s quirky. It’s fun. It’s Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein.
Then we get to the Mary Janes, which we’re also eating up. Rogge blows up their hardware and keeps the heels sleek. Paired with socks and hosiery, they create the impression of a polished eccentric whose wardrobe happens to work well in tropical weather. We give credit to how achievable the styling is.
Marni S/S27 is a wardrobe we understand, with enough mischief to make us want to play with it. And play, we certainly can.
