Raffaella Carrà makes perfect sense as this lineup’s guiding spirit. The Italian entertainer had glamour, physicality, and sexual freedom in abundance—all of which Chiuri brings into her new Fendi woman. E. E. Cummings’ “I Like My Body When It Is With Your” makes the mood more intimate. Put the two together, and S/S27 is a collection about bodies enjoying bodies.
A plunging neckline will always get the point across, but we’re more interested in the lace lingerie peeking beneath open blouses and past the hems of tailored shorts. This woman looks slightly undressed and far too pleased with herself for it to have been an accident. Raccoon-tail-looking fur brushing against bare skin only makes her more sensual, while Art Deco curves give the sheer pieces another sultry detail to appreciate.
The accessories are just as good. Those famous Fendi Baguettes come in new iterations, whether embroidered, embellished, covered in animal motifs, or dripping in beads and fringe. Yes to all of them, we say. And the shoes! Their studded straps scratch the same itch Valentino Rockstuds did throughout the 2010s. It makes us wonder whether another great pump obsession is about to begin. We wouldn’t mind.
