Crystals sprinkled across black jackets like sugar, handwoven silks, and geometric patterns with enough variety to fill a rather extravagant menu. We have to wonder what the French would think of Thai designer Wisharawish Akarasantisook’s interpretation of Salade de Fruits, as his S/S27 collection takes its name from the song popularized by Bourvil. “Salade de Fruits is pretty sweet—bittersweet. I hope you’ll love it,” he tells MEGA.

Akarasantisook enlists five textile producers across Thailand to develop the materials for his lineup, including specially commissioned handwoven fabrics. “You’ll see a lot of handwork and craftsmanship,” he adds.
His background in dramatic arts has long informed his creative practice, while his collaborations with regional artisans continue to expand what he can accomplish through fabric. Every new technique becomes another ingredient in a wardrobe that bears his sense of play.
“Asian fashion is rich in materials and freshness.”

That being said, what Akarasantisook really wants is for his clothes to bring brightness at a time when the news gives people ample reason to worry. Happiness is a fleeting, subjective thing, and Salade de Fruits hopes to remind us that not everything’s terrible. There’s still joy to be found, one non-literal fashion fruit bowl at a time.
