Kaia Gerber walks the runway in Karl Lagerfeld’s enchanting garden couture show.
A few hours ago, Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld held a whimsical garden party in Paris for Couture Week. Unsurprisingly, the French luxury house threw quite a lush extravaganza ringing true to the spirit of lavish runway sets they’ve previously staged over the years.
From orchestras to custom-built replicas of famous landmarks, Lagerfeld’s couture shows aren’t exactly known for its subtlety. For this season, he traded colossal towers for a more intimate, albeit still sumptuous event set within the Grand Palais complete with a grand fountain and elaborately constructed rows of trellises and about 10,000 English garden roses.

Debuting in her first couture show, model protégé, Kaia Gerber walked the runway an elaborate feathered blush number topped with a black rose veil that accessorized every model’s look. The young model was the star of Chanel’s previous Spring 2018 show but this marked her first couture experience.

Floral embellished booties in lucite replaced last season’s much talked about glitter footwear. As for clothes, tweed separates were not lost as usual, just how Chanel does it – sporting their trademark each catwalk and the main event, shimmery, red carpet-worthy ensembles in feathers, tulle, sequins and metallic-hued soft pink were the standouts of the range.
For the grand finale, 9-year-old Hudson Kroenig (who is Lagerfeld’s muse) appeared to close the show, throwing rose petals from a basket ala flower boy. The last assemblage featured a white suit complete with a dramatic feathered gown overlay and topped with a white veil and feathered headpiece.
