Few hues carry the joie de vivre and visual punch of canary yellow. For Filipino designer Mark Bumgarner, it was the only choice for Pia Wurtzbach’s appearance at BVLGARI’s high jewelry gala in Sicily as she celebrated the launch of the Roman High Jeweler’s most ambitious collection to date, Polychroma.

“BVLGARI’s high jewelry gala is one of the most important events on the brand’s calendar—and for Pia as well,” Bumgarner shares. “When I was conceptualizing her look, I knew I had to reflect the essence of the Polychroma collection, which celebrates bold color and striking form.”
At the heart of the design was contrast: vibrant yellow silk offsetting the deep green of emeralds, a chromatic echo of Polychroma’s spirit. “I chose canary yellow for two reasons: first, I thought it would look absolutely stunning on Pia, and second, it beautifully complemented the rich emeralds that dominate the collection.”

It was electric and elegant: an asymmetric off-shoulder neckline, fluid draping across the bodice through a sleek silhouette. “It was intentionally minimal,” Bumgarner notes, “to let both Pia and the jewelry shine.”
While BVLGARI’s design language is famously maximalist, Bumgarner chose a more nuanced approach. “It was definitely a process of balance. I wanted Pia to look bold, but still refined,” he says. “That’s why I let the color do most of the talking. The silhouette is clean and elegant, and when paired with that canary yellow and the incredible jewelry, it creates just the right amount of drama without overpowering her.”

In a gathering that celebrated chromatic excess, Pia Wurtzbach’s look radiated, refined, and was entirely in sync with Polychroma’s vibrant ethos. It was a yellow moment that glowed with intention.
