Local hair care has found a new favorite in BETTERHAIR.

Built around the idea that Filipino hair deserves products made with its specific needs in mind, the homegrown brand has quickly found its way into beauty bags and vanities—from its clean-girl-coded Styling Stick and cult-favorite Dry Shampoo to its hairstylist-approved hairsprays.

Now, BETTERHAIR is entering its next chapter. MEGA caught up with celebrity hairstylist and co-founder Paul Nebres to talk about building a brand around Filipino hair, his decade-long relationship with Dyson, and what’s next for BETTERHAIR.

Made for Filipino Hair

BETTERHAIR was founded by an unlikely but fitting trio: hairstylist Paul Nebres, fashion designer Vania Romoff, and photographer BJ Pascual. While their backgrounds span different corners of the creative industry, their shared understanding of beauty, fashion, and image-making gave the brand a distinct point of view.

For Nebres, the idea was rooted in years of working with hair. Having styled the locks of Nadine Lustre, Anne Curtis, Georgina Wilson, Niana Guerrero, and more, he had firsthand experience with what Filipino hair needed—especially in a country defined by humidity, heat, and pollution.

That experience became the foundation for BETTERHAIR.

“I’m confident that we can compete internationally—quality-wise,” Nebres said. “We worked hard for the formula to work.”

The result is a range designed to make styling easier without compromising the hair itself. Its hairsprays are made to hold without weighing hair down, while its Dry Shampoo adds volume without leaving behind a noticeable white cast. Then there’s its hero Styling Stick, which has become synonymous with the slicked-back, clean-girl look.

“Most of the hair brands here in the Philippines were made outside the country. It’s for foreign hair, not for Filipinos,” Nebres observed.

For someone who has spent years styling hair professionally, the distinction matters. Before creating BETTERHAIR, Nebres knew that products had to work not only on Filipino hair but also within the realities of the Philippine climate.

“We needed to acknowledge and address these problems before launching our brand,” the hairstylist explained.

The Perfect Match

Styling, however, is only one part of the equation. For BETTERHAIR, healthy hair comes first—and that philosophy has now led to a major new partnership.

The brand has officially become a partner of Dyson, marking a significant milestone for the homegrown label. The collaboration feels almost full-circle for Nebres: he has been working with Dyson for a decade, long before BETTERHAIR entered the picture.

“I think Dyson is a must-have for stylists now,” Nebres says with a laugh. “Each brand’s goal is to take care of hair first before styling. Dyson’s first priority is to avoid damaging your hair; BETTERHAIR gives you products that will help.”

The two brands, in that sense, complement each other. Dyson provides the tools to style hair with a focus on hair health, while BETTERHAIR offers the products that help finish and hold the look.

Think of Dyson’s Supersonic Travel hair dryer paired with BETTERHAIR’s Ready Airset Go Flex Hairspray.

“You need styling tools, and then you need styling products to seal it. I think it’s a perfect match!” Nebres adds.

BETTERHAIR’s Growth

The Dyson partnership may mark a new chapter for BETTERHAIR, but Nebres sees it as part of something much bigger: the growing confidence of the Filipino beauty industry.

“Skincare, hair care, body care—our local beauty industry can compete with international brands. We can provide our own,” he declares.

It’s a sentiment that extends beyond BETTERHAIR. The success of a Filipino brand on an international scale is ultimately a win for the industry as a whole—proof that local products can be created with the same ambition, quality, and innovation as their global counterparts.

And BETTERHAIR isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

When asked what’s next for the brand, Nebres offers a glimpse into the brand’s growing product pipeline. “Soon, we’ll have more hair care products. We’re planning to launch heat protectants, hair oils, treatment oils, hair masks, anti-frizz sprays. A lot!” he said excitedly.

From styling essentials to more comprehensive hair care, BETTERHAIR is clearly thinking beyond the products that made it a household name. And its partnership with Dyson is only a reflection of how far Filipino beauty has come—and a sign of where it could go next.

BETTERHAIR is a Filipino hair care brand co-founded by celebrity hairstylist Paul Nebres, fashion designer Vania Romoff, and photographer BJ Pascual. The brand was built around the specific needs of Filipino hair — formulated to perform in the Philippines’ humidity, heat, and pollution — with products including a Styling Stick, Dry Shampoo, and hairsprays.

Paul Nebres created BETTERHAIR after years of professional styling experience, observing that most hair care brands available in the Philippines were formulated for foreign hair types rather than Filipino hair. He developed BETTERHAIR to address the specific challenges of Filipino hair in a tropical climate — including humidity, heat exposure, and pollution — with products designed to hold and finish without compromising hair health.

BETTERHAIR has officially partnered with Dyson, pairing BETTERHAIR’s styling products with Dyson’s hair tools — which prioritize heat-safe styling. Paul Nebres, who has worked with Dyson for a decade, describes the partnership as complementary: Dyson provides the tools to style hair safely, while BETTERHAIR offers the finishing and hold products to complete the look.

BETTERHAIR has confirmed plans to expand its product range with heat protectants, hair oils, treatment oils, hair masks, and anti-frizz sprays — moving beyond its original styling-focused lineup into more comprehensive hair care. Co-founder Paul Nebres describes the upcoming pipeline as a significant expansion for the brand.
