With the sun shining and summer season in full effect, there’s a lot to do and see this May, and that includes the new movies and shows dropping this month to watch. In a time when a simple scroll on social media inundates us with so much slop, May’s offerings promise all kinds of experiences, stories, and characters worth watching. From horror, comedy, action, drama, and more, these new movies and shows look to add even more to your viewing hours. Cinema Releases

Mortal Kombat II

It’s time to turn the kombat to 11 with Mortal Kombat II. The sequel based on the popular fighting video game franchise features the return and introduction of fan favorite characters, most notably Johnny Cage, played by the ever-reliable Karl Urban. Fighters across the realms are pitted against one another in the ultimate, no-holds-barred, gory battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn that threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders. The movie will come to cinemas on May 6.

Hokum

Regarded as one of 2026’s best horror movies, Hokum follows Ohm Bauman (Adam Scott), an author who travels to rural Ireland to scatter his deceased parents’ ashes. But things are never as they seem, as Ohm begins to realize that dark forces are afoot. See how it plays out in cinemas on May 6.  

The Sheep Detectives

For something more lighthearted, this sheep whodunnit might be up your alley. In this witty mystery, George (Hugh Jackman) is a shepherd who reads detective novels to his beloved sheep every night, as one does, assuming they can’t possibly understand. But when a mysterious incident leads to George’s death, the sheep realize they must become the detectives. As they follow the clues and investigate human suspects, they prove that even sheep can be brilliant crime-solvers. Find out who did it in cinemas on May 6.

Almost Us

Award-winning director Dan Villegas is back on the rom-com scene, and this time he’s partnered with Fyang Smith and JM Ibarra for their first movie together as leads. It tells the story of a fanfiction writer and her best friend, who harbors secret feelings for her, as they navigate young love and how the people you’re meant to be with are actually right in front of you. It will screen in cinemas on May 6.

The King’s Warden

The highest-grossing movie in South Korean box office history is coming to the Philippines. It centers on the deposed King Danjong during his exile in 1457 and how he navigated his domestic life and psychological isolation during that period of time. See this in cinemas starting May 6.

Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard And Soft: The Tour (Live in 3D)

The latest concert movie coming to the big screen is courtesy of Billie Eilish, but this time, it’s presented in 3D and directed by Billie in collaboration with James Cameron (yes, that James Cameron). Captured during her latest sold-out world tour, the movie brings an innovative new concert experience that’s a must-watch for any Billie Eilish fan. The movie comes exclusively to SM Cinemas nationwide on May 8.

Midnight Girls

After breaking hearts and filling cinemas with The Loved One earlier this year, director Irene Villamor is back with a female-centered story of women trying to make it in a foreign land. Starring Jodi Sta. Maria, Loisa Andalio, Jane Oineza, and Sanya Lopez, the film follows four Filipina entertainers working in Nagoya, Japan’s red light district, who have to balance providing for their families back home with the personal and emotional toll their work entails. Watch this in cinemas on May 13.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian And Grogu

After seven years, a new Star Wars movie is finally coming to cinemas, and it’s the latest adventure in the popular TV series. After the fall of the Galactic Empire, the New Republic enlists the help of Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin and his apprentice Grogu to rescue Rotta the Hutt in exchange for information from the Hutt clan on a New Republic target. Return to a galaxy far, far away in cinemas on May 20.

Passenger

What do you do if you witness a tragic accident on the road while driving late at night? That’s the premise of this horror movie about a young couple who attract the unwanted attention of a demonic presence called the Passenger after they witness a gruesome highway accident. What was supposed to be a van life adventure quickly turns into a nightmare. Driving late at night may never be the same when the movie comes to cinemas on May 27.

Obsession

Love can make people do crazy things, and that includes making a figurative deal with the devil. Hopeless romantic Bear is in love with his crush, Nikki. So, for the feeling to be mutual, he uses the mysterious “One Wish Willow” to win her heart. But things quickly go wrong as Bear discovers that some desires come at a dark, sinister price. Find out what exactly that is when the film plays exclusively in Ayala Malls Cinemas on May 27.

The latest DonBelle film looks to be a tearjerker, and it’s not just because it’s their last project together for a while. Teaming up with director Cathy Garcia-Sampana, Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano star in this romantic drama about a couple who are going through troubling times in their relationship. It will screen in cinemas on May 27.

Love Is Never Gone

Prime Video’s latest Filipino series brings together Joshua Garcia and Ivana Alawi for a steamy and action-packed drama set in Morocco and the Philippines. Teo is a devoted son who dreams of a better life for his family. He falls victim to Yana, a cunning thief, but soon learns she steals out of desperation to care for her sick mother. What begins in anger turns into love, forged through shared loss and sacrifice. However, Yana’s ties to a crime syndicate led to betrayal and Teo’s wrongful imprisonment, leaving him convinced she destroyed him.

Years later, pardoned and back in the Philippines, Teo tries to rebuild his life, only to discover that Ace Verona’s (Jameson Blake) wife, Gem, is the very image of Yana. As he infiltrates her world seeking justice, he uncovers dangerous secrets about the powerful Verona family and the shocking truth about Gem’s sacrifice to free him. The show will premiere on the streaming service on May 8.

The Master Cutter

Dingdong Dantes is back on primetime in this action-drama show about Anthony, a former scout ranger who lives a double life. By day, he’s a tailor working in Baclaran, but by night, he’s a secret bounty hunter. One day, he takes in a girl, only to realize she is actually his daughter and is connected to a crime syndicate. The series will come to Netflix and GMA on May 11.

Off Campus

Adaptations of hockey romance novels have been all the rage lately, and the latest one coming to screens is based on a popular and bestselling YA franchise from the 2010s. Off Campus follows an elite ice hockey team, and the women in their lives, as they grapple with love, heartbreak, and self-discovery—forging deep friendships and enduring bonds while navigating the complexities that come with transitioning into adulthood. In Season 1, we follow the sexy and fun “opposites attract” and fake dating romance between quiet songwriter, Hannah, and Briar University’s all-star hockey athlete, Garrett. It will stream on Prime Video on May 13.

The Punisher: One Last Kill

Before we see him in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Frank Castle has one more battle in A Marvel Television Special Presentation: The Punisher: One Last Kill. In it, Frank hopes to leave behind his life as The Punisher and search for peace in his family’s death. But plans change when a new development drags him right back into the shadows of New York City, forcing him into one last fight that he never asked for.

This Marvel special is a tragic continuation of a father’s grief-turned-violence that blurs the lines between justice and revenge, leaving us to wonder: Is this truly The Punisher’s last kill or just the beginning of something darker? The special will stream on Disney+ on May 13.

Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed

Dolly de Leon’s Hollywood era continues, and this time it’s in her first Apple TV series, where she plays a detective. Newly divorced mom Paula (Tatiana Maslany) falls down a rabbit hole of blackmail, murder, and youth soccer after she’s convinced she witnessed a crime. As she navigates this perilous web in her own investigation, she will also have to deal with a custody battle and an identity crisis. The dark comedy series will come to Apple TV on May 20.

Kumusta

Two countries and cultures come together through the only way possible: food. This reality series features Filipino personalities Jodi Sta. Maria, Janella Salvador, Francine Diaz, Arci Muñoz, and Chef JP Angelo as they run a Filipino pop-up restaurant in Seoul called Kumusta. But they aren’t alone as they’ll have help from their Korean friends, such as Ji Chang Wook, Kim Min Seok, Kim Myung soo, Seo In guk, and Chef Choi Hyun Seok. You can watch this on Viu and TV5 starting May 24.

Spider-Noir

Spider-Noir is a live-action series based on the Marvel comic Spider-Man Noir. It tells the story of Ben Reilly (Nicolas Cage in his first leading TV role), a seasoned, down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life, following a deeply personal tragedy, as the city’s one and only Superhero. True to the show’s noir aesthetic, viewers will be able to watch the show in two ways, in “Authentic Black&White” and “True-Hue Full Color.” It will come exclusively to Prime Video on May 27.
