If the world moves, so does talent—sometimes quietly, sometimes in a blaze of color and light. Veejay Floresca has been moving like that world itself, refusing boundaries, rewriting expectations, and proving that the limits we imagine exist only to be outgrown. From multiple runner-up finishes to finally claiming a victory that feels like a coronation, the winner of the 21st season of Project Runway embodies the relentless pursuit of excellence.
Pride and Purpose
“What kept me going,” Floresca reflects, “was my love for design and the belief that every near-miss was preparing me for something bigger. As a Filipino American trans woman, I’ve faced many moments in life where I had to prove myself again and again. Every time I didn’t win, I reminded myself that the work, the growth, and the journey mattered just as much as the trophy. I kept showing up because I knew that someday, the right moment would come—and this was that moment.” And come it did, not with fanfare alone, but with the thunder of resilience rewarded.
Her determination is not just personal—it is communal, a testament to identity and perseverance. “To have my determination recognized now is emotional because it’s not just my win—it’s a win for every Filipino kid who grew up dreaming big, for every trans woman who has been told ‘no’ but kept going anyway. It’s a celebration of persistence, identity, and community,” she says, steady but resonant, carrying both pride and purpose.
Instinct to Intention
Floresca’s design philosophy mirrors her life story: unapologetically expressive. “Earlier, I designed from instinct and emotion—which I still do—but over time, I learned to combine intuition with purpose. Sustainability has become a core part of my work, as has inclusivity in silhouette and fit. I start with a story or a feeling, then I translate that into materials and shapes that honor the body wearing them. Winning this season reminded me that evolution doesn’t mean abandoning your roots—it means refining them.”
Even under pressure, she navigates deadlines with an anchor in values. “I go back to why I create—representation, sustainability, storytelling. Pressure is part of the industry, but I’ve learned to turn it into focus. I take a moment to breathe, reconnect to my intention, and remind myself that my voice matters. That always keeps my vision clear.”
Floresca’s sources of inspiration are equally layered: from the tactile and transformative possibilities of fabric to the strength embedded in her Filipino heritage and trans community. “I draw inspiration from everyday people—those who express themselves fearlessly and authentically,” she says, reminding us that artistry is never isolated, but in a conversation with the world.
Looking forward, she envisions a landscape that is accessible to everyone. “This win opens a new chapter. I’m excited to explore collaborations with brands that share my values of sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation. I want to create collections that challenge traditional ideas of beauty and celebrate diverse bodies. I also dream of building a platform that uplifts emerging designers—especially those from marginalized communities—and continuing to bridge Filipino craftsmanship with global fashion.”
