You know a legend when you see one. Filipino-American singer Jessica Sanchez returned to America’s Got Talent on its 20th season, reclaiming her love for music after drifting away from it over the years. Before she started her rendition of Benson Boone’s “Beautiful Things,” she also revealed that she revealed she’s now married and expecting her first child.

With a heartwarming story and a moving performance, Sofia Vergara couldn’t help but press the golden buzzer. It may have taken her 20 years to finally discover who she is and what she wants in her music, but longtime fans already knew how gifted she was.

Where It All Began

Sanchez was nine years old when she joined the debut season of America’s Got Talent. She was young, but she had great, raw talent. Unfortunately, she was eliminated right before the grand finals.

However, Sanchez revealed that AGT lit a spark in her, discovering that singing is all she wanted to do. It may have been a devastating loss as a child, but it was also the beginning of a big dream.

Idol Favorite

Five years later, the singer auditioned for the 11th season of American Idol, where she competed and progressed through rounds. This time, she reached the grand finals and finished as a runner-up.

It was after American Idol that she started a music career. Signing with Interscope Records, performing at concerts, releasing her debut album Me, You, & the Music, appearing on the television drama Glee, and eventually going independent.

Jessica Goes Pop

Throughout her career, one of her most successful and memorable moments was her debut album’s lead single, “Tonight.” The track—featuring R&B star Ne-Yo—was an upbeat pop anthem that showcased Sanchez’s versatility as a singer.

While she was best known for her powerhouse vocals, “Tonight” revealed a more confident, genre-blending artist in her own right. Sanchez and Ne-Yo even performed together live on the 12th season of American Idol, a full-circle moment for the Fil-Am singer that cemented her as a rising artist.
