How to Wear All-White: Style Lessons from Belo Babies

By

At the Belo Babies Birthday Bash, all-white never looked so good. Here’s how these Belo Babies took a classic color to the next level

White can be deceptive. It’s easy to wear in theory, but how do you make it look interesting? Here, we take lessons from the stars spotted at the Belo Babies Birthday Bash, where all-white was the mandate of the evening. Hosted by the Belo Medical Group, it gathered the most glamorous names in show business and members of the Beloverse, including Anne Curtis-Smith, Michelle Dee, Julia Barretto, BINI Aiah Arceta, and BINI Jhoanna Robles, and BINI Mikha Lim, to celebrate founder Dr. Vicki Belo’s birthday and the January and February celebrants. All dressed in shades of ivory, alabaster, and pearl, these women turned what seemed like a simple dress code into a lesson in making white feel anything but boring. Here are some style lessons to pick up from them.

Power of Simplicity

Sarah Geronimo and Matteo Guidicelli

Minimalism isn’t for the faint of heart. With an all-white ensemble, we tend to look for room to show off some attitude and personality. Belo Babies including Sarah Geronimo, Andrea Brillantes, Solenn Heussaff, Iza Calzado, and BINI Jhoanna pulled off their looks perfectly, showing up in virtually plain white pieces, free of embellishments, yet somehow, they made everyone look twice.

Style Note: When going for an all-white minimalist look, the fit is everything. Look for pieces that can sculpt you without squeezing the air and are loose enough without drowning you in fabric. A cinched waist, a sharp shoulder, or a nicely placed cutout a lá Heussaff can make all the difference.

Once-Piece Wonder

The easiest way to wear all-white? Find a showstopper. When the silhouette, texture, and detail of the piece are strong enough, there’s no need for loud accessories or complicated layering. Take it from these women.

Crowned Bubbliest Person of the Night, Julia Barretto led the pack with a body-hugging number feature torso cutouts. Ever the style authority Liz Uy followed suit, stunning in a sleek long dress with waist cutouts and an angular neckline. And then there was Effortless Elegance winner Alexa Ilacad and Georgina Wilson who dialed up the glamour with mini dresses decked out in texture and embellishments that danced with them that evening.

Style Note: If you’re looking to invest in a white statement piece, pay attention to structure. An interesting cut will keep it from looking flat. And if you still find it too stark, play with fabric—like silk for something luxe, linen for the cool girl, and embellishments for some drama.

Perfect Pairing

BINI Aiah Arceta and Anne Curtis-Smith

Now, for everyone’s favorite way to wear it—white-on-white. Matching separates are for those who love their options and appreciate a little cut in the monotony. Anne Curtis-Smith, BINI Aiah Arceta, BINI Mikha Lim, Angelique Manto, Janella Salvador, and Francine Diaz nailed this at the bash. Serving sweet and sultry was Anne who sported a cropped corset and a midi skirt to match, and Angelique Manto who went for structured nonchalance: a micro bra top and a waist-wrapped skirt under an oversized blazer. Also nailing the fiasco was BINI Mikha who chose a sharp white blazer to top off her matching ensemble.

Meanwhile, Francine Diaz floated in like a vision, her textured cropped top and matching skirt looking ethereal and delicate as if straight from a dream. Janella Salvador went for romantic drama in ruffled coordinates. BINI Aiah took a shinier approach—flashes of silver accents glinting against the crisp white set, adding just enough personality to the look.

Style Note: The trick to monochrome separates is knowing how to break up the uniformity. If you’re going for a fitted top, add volume below. If your fabrics are soft, throw in something structured. This helps make white-on-white feel deliberate and not just dressed in one color.
