This is an excerpt from Designer Spotlight Asia in MEGA’s September 2025 issue
The recently concluded Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week 2025 unfolded as a celebration of identity, reinvention, and artistic clarity. Now in its13th year, the event was all about an electrifying convergence of heritage and innovation that elevated Malaysian fashion to global relevance. As editor, I found myself immersed in a powerful tapestry of design perspectives, each one contributing a unique voice to the runway. Among the most captivating narratives this year were those of Ezzati Amira, Uzair Shoid, Tact Airport, and the dynamic collaboration between LARNEY and Afiq M—four forces that painted KLFW 2025 with vision, edge, and elegance.

Opening with a signature calm yet commanding energy was Ezzati Amira, a designer whose name is synonymous with architectural tailoring and effortless sophistication. Her KLFW 2025 collection, aptly titled Suara (Malay for “voice”), was not a brash noise—but a steady, confident declaration. Known for her fusion of masculine silhouettes with feminine restraint, Ezzati once again demonstrated why her work continues to resonate with women who favor power dressing softened by subtle flourishes. A palette of gray, beige, black, and soft pastels underscored the collection’s message: that quiet strength is the loudest form of rebellion. Her signature precision tailoring remained intact, but with added fluidity—flowing trousers, ombré gradients, and barely-there sequins reflected an evolution towards softer rebellion. It was clear: Suara wasn’t just a collection, it was an internal monologue turned outward, an exploration of self-assured femininity that never needed to perform to be heard.

BY UZOIR SHOID
Just as Ezzati’s collection spoke in hushed tones, 2022 KL Designer Search Winner Uzair Shoid brought a more cultural rhythm to the runway—rooted deeply in heritage, yet vibrantly reimagined for today’s audience.

In contrast to the emotionally rich heritage narratives of Uzair Shoid was the sleek, forward-thinking presentation by Tact Airport—the brainchild of photographer Ridduan Ismail (TTFGA) and Hadri Hashim. This label redefined jet-set dressing, turning the runway into a metaphorical boarding lounge. Tact Airport’s KLFW 2025 showcase imagined the wardrobe of a well-traveled, high-functioning individual: cool, collected, and constantly in transit.

That same sense of intention found its most theatrical expression in the highly anticipated collaboration between LARNEY and Afiq M. The partnership was as bold as it was seamless—uniting LARNEY’s flair for elegance with Afiq M’s signature dark romanticism.
