Beautiful, confident, successful, and loves her job, there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to the Gucci global brand ambassador and Thai superstar Davika Hoorne.

This is an excerpt from the MEGA March 2025 cover story

At first glance, Davikah Hoorne is just too gorgeous to be true. You just have to look at her. A superstar through and through. A household name in her home country of Thailand, she sets crowds abuzzing when she makes an appearance at international fashion and movie events.

Lithe of limb with a fair complexion and expressive face, she stands 5 feet and 9 inches tall. She credits her Belgian father for her height and her mother for her nickname, “Mai” (after the famous Thai singer Mai Charoenpura).

The media call her a “triple threat,” having found fame as a model first, then as an actress, and most recently as a singer. She also has a large social media following, with 18.4 million followers on Instagram, as of this writing, to whom she shares her life events and moments—from the glamorous show stopping red carpet appearances, her impeccable fashion game, and the behind-the-scenes of the movies she works in to the more laid-back scenes at home with her dogs, and the sweet moments with her boyfriend actor and screenwriter Chantavit Dhanasevi.

A SECOND LOOK

Davika’s life and career in the spotlight started after she begged her mom to take her to a casting call and she got the job at her first try when she was 12 years old. Even then, she had a natural charm and star quality that no one could miss, and that was the start of a career that steadily brought her fame, first as a model then as an actress. And while her career as a model was meant to be, the opportunities came with their own set of challenges for her.

“I never thought that I was going to become an actress. I hated it,” Davika confesses. “At that time I was just a model. I didn’t have to have great acting skills. But when I turned 16 or 17, there was a big opportunity that came my way.”

She debuted as the female lead in the television series Ngao Kammathep. “At that time, I had questions in my head if I could do it, but they trusted me. So I gave it a try,” she continues. “And it was a disaster!” However, that realization that she didn’t know how to act at her first try did not make her give up, instead it fueled her determination to use what she learned from that experience and to improve her skills. “And then one day, I realized that I can’t do anything else because I’m in love with acting already,” she says.

Her new-found passion for acting brought Davika to her breakthrough role in the multi-award-winning movie Heart Attack by Nawapol Thamrongrattanarit. But the movie that cemented her superstar status was 2013’s Pee Mak, a horror-comedy and the highest grossing movie of all time in Thailand. This was followed by more successful series and movies, and through the years, Davika has seen the Thai industry grow to even greater heights.

“I think the Thai industry is very international now. I have been in this business for 20 years and I can see how it developed,” she shares. “I see how creative Thai people are and I’m so proud… I feel happy and very grateful that people around the world are focusing on Southeast Asia more. We have a lot of talented and good people here.”

A THIRD LOOK

Davika is unapologetically comfortable in her skin. Look at her, who can blame her? She has no problems in staying authentic because of this confidence and acceptance of everything that she is. “I do know who I am,” she declares. “I believe in myself, and I do believe that individual imperfections are perfect for me. We don’t have to be the same.”

This comfort and confidence in herself adds to Davika’s undeniable flair for fashion. Her style is often called “daring.” She pulls off all her looks—from casual jeans and white shirts, sheer body suits, and ball gowns with cutouts not for the faint of heart (like the one she wore in Paris Fashion Week just this January)—like very few people can.

“Fashion is fun!” she says. “Fashion is a form of creativity and it definitely makes the world a better place.”

Little wonder why she is the darling of every fashion week she attends. Luxury brands stood up and took notice, including Gucci. In 2022, Davika became the first Thai global ambassador for Gucci and Gucci beauty. As a global ambassador, she represented the brand at high profile events such as Milan Fashion Week, and appeared in several campaigns for Gucci’s signature collections.

However, Davika and Gucci go way back before her official appointment. She wore the brand to red carpet appearances and even magazine covers. She also attended Gucci fashion shows in Milan and Castel del Monte. “Gucci has always been my favorite, and I love the story behind the brand,” she says.
