Yoke

A shaped section of a garment, usually across the shoulders or hips, from which the rest of the fabric hangs or is gathered. Yokes give shirts, dresses, and skirts structure, and appear in denim jackets, western shirts, and embroidered pieces where the panel becomes decorative.
