Michelle Dee Honors Her Family’s Legacy For Miss Universe

Blood is thicker than water—at least that’s what Michelle Dee, Melanie Marquez, and Winwyn Marquez prove as they all walked the stages of international pageants in emerald

During her preparation for Miss Universe, Michelle Dee has always been transparent with her love towards her family. She expressed it countless times through her social media, campaigns, and most especially her winning walk that was dedicated to her mother, Melanie Marquez.

After knowing Michelle’s sentimental concept behind her preliminary gown, we can’t help but notice how emerald has become a staple within the Dee-Marquez family.

Back in 1979, Melanie Marquez made Miss International history when she won at the age of 15. The former beauty queen was in a sparkling emerald dress done with a square neckline and a fitted silhouette when she received the crown, and it was a design that accentuated her figure elegantly.

Three decades later, Winwyn Marquez, Michelle Dee’s maternal cousin, joined the Reina Hispanoamericana and also won the crown that night. Her emerald dress hugged her silhouette elegantly, while the plunging neckline gave her the look a sultry finish. To further elevate her ensemble, it was finished in crystals from the neckline down to the hemline.

We see the stunning color on the global stage once again as Michelle herself walked out in a crystallized emerald piece designed by Mark Bumgarner. A tone of modernity was seen on the gown because of the cutouts placed on the bodice, while the body-hugging form gave the overall look a timeless feel.

Apart from the details, it’s also evident that the gown complemented both her figure and walk. The fit made it seem like it was a second-skin and it definitely elevated Michelle’s signature pasarela. To put it simply, all of the elements about her emerald gown just blended seamlessly.

In a sense, we see how the narrative continues to play out with Michelle’s initiative to wear the same hue for her pageant journey. The three beauty queens show us that there is strength in gratitude, and we’re hoping to see this tradition continue on in the future.
