Pia Wurtzbach always had a type, and it goes by the name nude. It’s chic, polished, and—on her lips—never a miss. So, imagine the surprise when the former Miss Universe appeared at the Bottega Veneta S/S26 show in a burgundy lip so bold it deserved its own row. Here, celebrity makeup artist Justin Soriano gives MEGA the exclusive on the bold, new shade—and the story.

Nude Won’t Do

The fashion week regular walked into the show dressed in power itself. Head-to-toe Bottega Veneta, no less—a deep red oversized blazer, wide gray trousers, and sly aviators to sharpen the mystique.

But if the outfit alone didn’t make the point clear, the bold burgundy lip did.

“Bottega Veneta chose and provided that whole look for Pia. We felt that a nude lip would underplay that energy,” Soriano tells MEGA. “The decision to go with a deep, wine-stained tone was intentional: it anchored the look, added depth, and echoed the refined edge of the styling.”

The Red-velation

Finally, Soriano reveals the shade behind the much-discussed lip moment. “I used L’Oreal’s Matte Resistance in Wine Not—a shade that doesn’t shout, but speaks with authority. Just the right kind of bold.”

He paired it with a lip liner that hasn’t yet dropped locally. But for those eager to cop the look, any liner close to your red of choice will do. Because with a red lip, the liner isn’t an accessory, but the seatbelt. Without it, you’re bound to make a mess.

And there it was: proof that the old rule of “loud outfit, quiet beauty” belongs in retirement. You can go bold on bold and still look sharp. And if you find yourself in hesitation, ask yourself what the queen wears on her lips: wine not?
