Singer-actress Janella Salvador took breaths away in a dreamy lavender gown that cascaded down her body at this year’s ABS-CBN Ball. What elevated the whole look together was the soft, dramatic makeup look, mirroring the breathtaking beauty of a lavender field.

MEGA took notes from her longtime makeup artist, Carissa Cielo Medved, who shared her influences, the key products to achieve this look, and what working on this look with her muse was like.

Behind the Purple Haze

Medved embodied the spirit of spring with soft, dewy skin and a luminous base. She added her muse’s signature drama with a gradient purple eyeshadow, defined lashes, and subtle eyeliner to enhance her eyes, beautifully contrasting Salvador’s radiant skin. Topped off with a pale pink flush on the cheeks and a gradient lip, the actress was spring personified—youthful, glowing, and effortlessly blooming.

Beyond the season, Medved drew inspiration from Olivia Rodrigo’s purple makeup look from the 2022 Met Gala. “The purple haze eyeshadow added a bold yet soft touch, balancing the drama with a youthful and glowing finish,” she explained.

But the magic wasn’t just in the concept—it was in the details.

Medved chose and applied each product with intention. Her muse’s skin was prepped and primed before applying a luminous foundation. The makeup artist skipped the powders to achieve the dewy look, capturing the essence of spring. With the Dior Rouge Forever Lipsticks in Mitzah and Rose Blues, she applied the two shades from the center of Salvador’s lips, creating a gradient of rosy pink.

“The challenge was incorporating a spring palette into her makeup without overdoing it,” Medved admitted. “We aimed for a gradient smokey but soft monochromatic look that matched the dress while still keeping her signature glam.” Her lavender gown and soft glam—blending purples and pinks—tied the entire ensemble together, creating a dreamy spring look.

The Lavender Muse

Having worked with Salvador for many years now, Medved expressed how meaningful it was to be working with her muse again for the ABS-CBN Ball. “For this look, we gave our signature soft smokey vibe a subtle twist—just enough drama to keep it soft and still true to her core glam.”

Even with a flight to catch that same day, she shared how her muse was easy to work with. “She was calm and understanding with my schedule despite the chaos of preparations,” Medved expressed warmly. “I had to work quickly, but it all came together perfectly.”
