Fashion Week Asia: BAJUYO Merges Korean Heritage With Engineering-Inspired Design

From the ribbons of the hanbok to the delicate blooms of moran embroidery, BAJUYO’s “TIE TIME: KOREA” finds new possibilities in the details of Korean tradition.

For Korean designer Darni Park of BAJUYO, tradition and innovation can go hand in hand. At Fashion Week Asia, he presented “TIE TIME: KOREA,” a collection that reimagines traditional hanbok through contemporary design, drawing particular inspiration from the goreum, the ties used to fasten a hanbok.

Where Engineering Meets Korean Fashion

The collection brings Korean heritage into focus through details like moran embroidery, featuring peonies, a traditional Korean floral motif. But Park’s engineering background also informs how these cultural elements take shape. By transforming the goreum into modular, detachable components, he introduces a sense of versatility to a detail rooted in traditional dress.

A New Chapter for BAJUYO

Beyond the garments themselves, the collection marks an opportunity for Park to share his cultural heritage with an international audience. Representing Korea at Fashion Week Asia is an honor, he says, especially after BAJUYO’s involvement in various projects at home. The opportunity has also given him renewed motivation to push his work further.

“I’m grateful that I get to share Korean culture on a global level. It gives me the drive and motivation to work harder moving forward.”

– Darni Park

Still, the prospect of representing his country comes with a degree of nervousness. Park hopes to do justice to Korean tradition while showing how beautifully its details can be interpreted through contemporary fashion. With “TIE TIME: KOREA,” he brings together the precision of engineering and the richness of cultural heritage, offering a fresh perspective on how the past can inform what we wear today.
