Matthieu Blazy, you’ve outdone yourself! At Paris Fashion Week, Chanel S/S27 draws on the multiple lives of Gabrielle Chanel, and the variety he finds within her story has left us equally stunned and spoiled. A year after introducing his Chanel to the world, the creative director returns to the Grand Palais with a setting worth craning our necks for, designed by Arnaud Selve—the artist who also created the enormous planets for Blazy’s debut S/S26 collection.

How are we supposed to pick favorites here? S/S27 sees Blazy adding new silhouettes, moving comfortably from cinched dresses with sweeping volume to the looseness of his day-to-night frocks. And yes, he has minis now! We’re already adding them to our wish lists.

Likewise, his accessories show the same eagerness for the uncharted, as the handbags turn lavishly embellished and his pumps take on more animal motifs. His massive belts make Chanel the third house we’ve noticed in favour of them after Gucci and Celine’s S/S27 outings. We’re taking the hint.

Look, another Asian model made her Chanel debut! After Bhavitha Mandava, we’re getting acquainted with Mirelle Aurellia, who hails from Indonesia. Speaking of Southeast Asia, Alex Eala’s appearance adds to our excitement, as the Filipino tennis star attended Paris Fashion Week for the first time.

Other guests included China’s Wang Yibo, South Korea’s WONHEE of ILLIT and KEONHO of CORTIS, Thailand’s Lena Lorena and Natsha Taechamongkalapiwat, Dua Lipa, Nicole Kidman, Pedro Pascal, and Alexa Demie.
Much is said about whether Blazy respects Chanel’s codes, but surely Gabrielle’s independent spirit matters too? The woman who founded this house had her own ideas about how women should dress, and she acted on them even if they went against convention. With such an extraordinary inheritance to work with, we’d like to give Blazy room to let his imagination wander. We’re certainly rooting for him to keep going.
