It’s difficult to write about Saint Laurent S/S27 without getting emotional again because Anthony Vaccarello gave us an evening we wanted to admire for much longer than the runway allowed. At Paris Fashion Week, his tenth anniversary at the house for S/S27 brought an extravagance worthy of the occasion, and our excitement grew into a deep affection for everything he had put before us.

Much of that emotion lives beneath the immense chandeliers, recalling the Salon Impérial at the Hôtel InterContinental, where Monsieur Saint Laurent presented his couture collection in 1976. Vaccarello gives Saint Laurent the gold it deserves through lace, brocade, and latex coated in gold leaf, while the founder’s sahariennes and wrap skirts appear alongside the voluminous blousons his successor has made familiar.

Corrado de Biase’s gilded chain sandals deserve just as much admiration, especially those snake-shaped heels that have us convinced a new status symbol is on its way.
