Believe it or not, there was once a time when the X-Men were considered an afterthought in the wider Marvel universe, aside from the comic books and Fox movies, which came with diminishing returns. But that is no longer the case given the importance they will have in the next chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
From the introduction of Jean Grey in the MCU in Spider-Man: Brand New Day to the OG cast’s inclusion in Avengers: Doomsday and the reveal of the cast of the MCU’s X-Men movie in May 2028, which will be the first film in the MCU after Secret Wars in 2027, Marvel’s mutants are finally getting the spotlight they deserve.
So, with all this renewed X-Men hype and the seemingly central role they’ll play in the coming years, we’ve rounded up where you can catch the past X-Men films. Whether for a rewatch, a binge session, or your first time watching, dive into the X-Men cinematic universe below.

X-Men – Disney+
Get into where it all started in this movie that followed Wolverine crossing paths with Professor Charles Xavier and the X-Men in their battles against Magneto and the Brotherhood of Mutants.
X-2 – Disney+
Widely regarded as not just the best movie in the original trilogy but one of the best comic book movies ever made, X-2 continues the X-Men’s story, which sees them come into conflict with William Stryker following Nightcrawler’s attack on the US president.
X-Men: The Last Stand – Disney+
While considered a step down in quality from the past two movies, The Last Stand and its so-so adaptation of the Dark Phoenix saga still has its merits, such as the enjoyable final act set on Alcatraz Island.
X-Men: First Class – Disney+
Set in the 1960s, this excellent prequel (minus the questionable death of Darwin) follows a young Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr and their journey from best friends to enemies.
X-Men: Days of Future Past – Disney+
A high point of the X-Men movie franchise, Days of Future Past brings both the prequel and original trilogy casts for a story across two timelines as the X-Men and Magneto must work together to prevent a dark future.
X-Men: Apocalypse – Disney+
One of the X-Men’s most famous villains takes center stage in this sequel that starts with a bang and ends with a mediocre round of applause.
Dark Phoenix – Disney+
Is Dark Phoenix good? Not really. But there was at least an attempt to adapt the Dark Phoenix saga for a second time that was derailed by delays, changes in creative direction, and the merger of Fox with Disney.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine – Disney+
One thing about the Fox X-Men movies is that Wolverine frequently takes the spotlight as the main character. So much so, in fact, that he got his own prequel spin-off in 2009 that explored his origins before coming in contact with the X-Men. Fun fact: Troye Sivan, who plays a young Logan, is the only other actor aside from Hugh Jackman to play Wolverine in the live-action movies so far.
The Wolverine – Disney+
Following the events of The Last Stand, this 2013 standalone sequel sees Logan travel to Japan as he tries to move on from Jean Grey’s death. But danger and conspiracy await the mutant as he’s embroiled in a larger sinister scheme.
Logan – Disney+
Set decades after the events of the original trilogy, this movie follows an older Logan taking care of a dying Professor X. But along the way, he comes across a young mutant he reluctantly becomes her protector from an organization that wants to experiment on her.
Deadpool – Disney+
Thanks to leaked footage that went viral on social media, the wider movie-going audience was introduced to a proper take on the 4th-wall-breaking merc with a mouth who is as deadly as he is irreverent in 2016.
Deadpool 2 – Disney+
In this sequel, Deadpool must protect a young kid from the time-traveling mutant Cable, and crack a few jokes at Fox’s expense along the way.
Deadpool & Wolverine – Disney+
This blockbuster hit brings together Deadpool and Wolverine in their long-awaited team-up as they must put their differences aside if they are to save their universe from extinction at the hands of the Time Variance Authority.
The New Mutants – Disney+
A group of young mutants finds themselves held in a secret facility run by a mysterious organization. But in order to survive and escape, they must first face the internal and external demons that haunt them. While this spin-off could have been better, it at least does something new as the only film in the Fox X-Men universe that has a distinct horror tone while introducing a new group of mutants. Hopefully they could find a spot in the MCU.
