KATSEYE, LE SSERAFIM, and ILLIT Might Have Dropped the Diss Track of the Year

Name a popular girl group, and chances are KATSEYE, LE SSERAFIM, and ILLIT are going to be on the list of answers. The three acts, who are all under HYBE, are leading the way for the next generation of girl groups making waves in the 2020s. And recently, the world saw what a song featuring the three of them would sound like with the release of their unexpected but welcome collaboration Iconic By Mistake.

KATSEYE, LE SSERAFIM, and ILLIT Turn the Girl Group Energy to 11

As popular and liked KATSEYE, LE SSERAFIM, and ILLIT are, the three groups have also faced their fair share of hate and criticism for a variety of reasons. While every artist has their haters, the criticisms against the them are particularly pointed, given that they are girl groups who, on occasion, have marched to the beat of their own drum. To most, that level of negative attention might be disheartening, but for these three groups, they turn it into their source of strength in Iconic By Mistake.

In essence, the all-English single is a diss track that calls out the hate they get and turns it on its head by singing how that negativity and internet trolling have inadvertently made them iconic. Having three of the biggest girl groups in the world sing about how hate makes them even bigger is honestly young icon behavior as they take back the narrative around them. In their eyes, that attention is a good thing because it means the haters can’t stop talking about them.

The music video captures this chaotically cheeky message by having each group traverse dangerous scenarios such as car crashes, grave robbing, and fires with gleeful ease. And if you’re wondering, there is a live performance featuring all three groups as they performed the track on the Korean music show M Countdown.

The release of Iconic By Mistake comes at a particularly eventful time for the groups. For KATSEYE, they are releasing their new album WILD this August, will go on their latest world tour later this year, and earned multiple awards at the 2026 American Music Awards, including New Artist of the Year. For LE SSERAFIM, they recently dropped their second full-length studio album, Pureflow Pt. 1, and the catchy comeback single BOOMPALA. As for ILLIT, the five-member girl group released their EP MAMAIHLAPINATAPAI and are going viral on social media for their single It’s Me.

Who knows, if ever there will be a HYBE family concert, we may just see these girl groups deliver an epic performance of Iconic By Mistake on stage together.
